This video is about the amazing blue ball that Alex "Hurricane" Higgins potted in the 1982 World Championship Semi Final against Jimmy White as part of his iconic 69 break. Alex then went on to defeat Ray Reardon in the Final. Two similar shots have been played since. Neil Robertson in the 2008 Bahrain Championship, and more recently by Judd Trump in the 2020 UK Championship quarter-final. This video looks at each shot then compares them side by side. Pease let me know in the comments which one you like the best!

And big respect to you for acknowledging such a truly fantastic shot and featuring it in this video that whole break by Alex i could watch a million times [ i likely have watched it a few hundred times already ] and never get bored that is just how entertaining Alex Higgins really was .

Thanks glad you like it. Yes the Higgins break is probably the most famous break of all time and it was only a 69 break. I have also watched and enjoyed it loads over the years. 😊

@@jamesmcdevitt5327 That was a great break, however there wasn't much pressure on it as by the time he got to the difficult reds the game was already over. I think the other best pressure clearance I have seen after the Alex Higgins one is on this link kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5XZZIN8odh8eqc

You have to take in to account the old balls, cloth and tips, etc. That makes Higgins shot more remarkable. Plus the absolute pressure. Not sure the other two would’ve taken on that shot at that stage of the semi of the wsc.

Yes the cloth, balls etc most certainly make a difference 🙂

and Robertsons cue ball was the furthest away from the blue 👍🏻

The Robertson's blue ball was the hardest 'cause much further. Higgins's one was the most critical, Trump's one the most uncomfortable due of all the reds behind the cue ball.

nice video but Alex "Hurricane" Higgins Blue ball is so very unique and natural it is pretty much impossible to re-create . Also Alex pots his blue in the top right where as Judd and Neil pot in the opposite pocket , i would even go as far as to say that pot by Alex was by far the most remembered and best shot played on a snooker table Judd,Jimmy,Ronnie and even Neil can play flash shots take nothing away from them , but none were as memorable as that blue by Alex i have yet to see anything better in 38 years and nor will i because it was a pure natural guts all or nothing shot and with today's tables it is fair to say to re-create that particular shot is indeed impossible that is just how good it was the best , and never going to be duplicated .

Agree with you 100 percent . Not many flair players left in the game : think trump is the nearest thing to Alex . Jimmy w Alex h Ronny o and trump and not far behind them is n Robinson . Just thought about that Belgium player he may make it up there but . Hopefully we will se a few more break in . 2021 2030

Agreed... alex blue was pure class... 1 of a kind shot... in that moment as well under the most extreme pressure....produces a moment of brilliance with a fantastic clearance...

No. He just hit it hard and hoped for the best. And it has been recreated on eurosport without much fuss. He wasnt even on the next red nice. Another 2.5 inches he would have been tucked up behind the black. At least judd played position and didn't flail wildly. Robertson needed the white ball to arc back more. You could see when it hit the left rail that he knew he hadn't got enough on it to get in between red and black as he wanted to put the red in the right hand corner but the left, as it didn't go passed the black. If anyone wants to watch me pot a blue into the yellow pocket and screw back like that off two cushions to leave a difficult red, then by all means, we can hook up after lockdown and I'll show you and I am SHIT. Don't have the game to shine these boys shoes. But I could show you 10 shots from ronnie, trump and robbo that I could never do, or atleast need an obscene amount of time trying to perfect/get right. That blue, like the 69 it was part of, is over rated to say the least. I have heard ronnie 'big it up before' but it isnt even in the same 1,2,3 as his 92 and half a dozen other breaks I can think of from memory. By all means, have your nostalgia, but let's not conflate something into something that it isn't. It's a deep screw shot with side that was over hit and poorly calculated

Thats not a comment, that's a life story 😂. I would love to watch you re-create that shot one day. I still like the shot as it was to keep a pressure break going but when you think about, it all three shots ran out of position and Higgins was the only one who potted the next ball.
