Stewie, Sue, Taurasi, Moore, if Paige Bueckers doesn't get one, it'll be a conversation about how she couldn't win the big one for the most storied women's program in the country. If Iowa doesn't win, we KNOW Caitlin Clark is CARRYING that team and one player can only take you so far. But when you commit to UConn as a star player, winning is expected. Clark's legacy is defined by her stats, that's the nature of her game. Clark is flash, Clark is the show,.... winning the championship only increases Clarks legacy, for Paige it makes her legacy. Paige's legacy will be defined by her perception as 'a winner', that is the nature of her game. Ther QB who doesn't throw the most yards or TDs but always wins the Super Bowl, the star who never leads the NBA in scoring but wins multiple Finals MVPs... People won't forget Clark, if Paige doesn't win big games and championships she will be mostly forgotten, a good player but not one of the all time greats. In a way Clark is on Rushmore already and the debate for her is GoaT or not, Paige needs to win a championship or championships to be seen as a Rushmore level players.

The Natty would impact Clark more than Bueckers. If you’re already in the GOAT conversation, that means they’re comparing you to the likes of Sheryl Swoopes, Breanna Stewart, Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird, Cheryl Miller, etc. Those players won chips. Clark has to win one to cement that. That said, Bueckers winning a Natty after taking down Clark’s Iowa would definitely boost her confidence. People forget Bueckers was the #1 recruit of that 2020 class. She was the most hyped recruit since Breanna Stewart. It was Bueckers who was supposed to be in these GOAT conversations right along Clark. Tbh, though… I have a sneaking suspicion neither one of them are gonna win the Natty … because unless they crap the bed, South Carolina would more than likely be waiting for whoever wins tonight. They’re the most complete team remaining and considering Iowa took them out last year, I already know they’re gonna do all they can to not let that happen again.

See, the thing with UConn specifically is, winning championships is the STANDARD! You cannot be considered one of the UConn greats if you don't win AT LEAST one, cause basically every great UConn player won one bare minimum. For Caitlin, it'd obviously be an incredible individual achievement and a great success for the team. But for UConn, it's basically a rite of passage to go out and win one if you want to be on that list of great former huskies. I mean, Stewie won four of them thangs. UConn is basically "Hall of Fame University." For Caitlin, this is about cementing her legacy as one of the all time greatest individual talents. But for Paige, this is about more than just proving for herself. This is about upholding the UConn standard of excellence. Cause if Caitlin doesn't win, we can all say "well, her teams weren't as talented as the competition." But for UCONN? They're supposed to be the best of the best. Winning the championship is considered business as usual. Caitlin has already taken Iowa further than they've basically ever been in anywhere near recent memory. But UConn has been there, done that. When you commit to UConn, you commit because you want to be a part of that legacy and part of a championship. You can't be considered a great UConn husky if you don't get at least one ring. One part of this is that Paige winning a title would probably cement her as the number one pick in 2025 while CC is already cemented as that in 2024. And this is probably Paige's best chance to win a title in college, given that Muhl and Edwards are leaving this year and UConn will miss Edwards a ton because unless Ice Brady develops a lot they have a questionable future with their frontcourt which is very important in college hoops.

No one bringing up the fact Clark winning a national championship for IOWA is so much more impactful for her legacy and the school. Paige is a story just for herself and what she can accomplish but IMPACT. Clark winning a chip for Iowa is like when Bron won a title for Cleveland. Paige does have Edwards who is very talented, but a bit inconsistent and Muhl who is a very good defender and solid distributor, but can't be relied upon to score whatsoever. Outside of that she is relying on freshman that can not be relied upon to make the right decisions in big moments. Iowa is full of players that have experience and will make the right play at the right time. Of course this also brings in the concept of chemistry and Iowa's roster is miles ahead of UConn's in that aspect.

Buckers missed almost 2 seasons, is a team player plus has deep character. If she had played those seasons her numbers would be better than Clark's. She's been rated a better all round player than Clark with smart shots and superior defense. Clark rarely gets defensive numbers.

Truth, the only argument that can be made is that she didnt have any or as much WNBA talent around her. It's a double edge sword, if she did im sure she would've won a title by now but at the same time if she does manage to win it all with the talent around her then it will just speak volumes about her. If Clark wins it helps with cementing her legacy as one of the greatest to ever do it at this level. If Paige wins (especially in these circumstances) it propels her into that conversation that Clark is already in and allows her to potentially steal some of the spotlight that is currently shining on Caitlin. Paige of course has another year to win one, but it's unlikely next year will be as good of a story as winning this year would be.
