Did research on rifles under $1k that I could buy for my first hunting rifle about a year ago or so. All roads lead me to CVA. Then I started looking at videos on YT about the CVA Cascade. Backfire did a review on it that helped me confirm my choice too. I bought a 6.5 CM and have been really happy with it so far. All my friends have shot it at the range and they love the factory trigger. I've gotten compliments on how nice it looks too in the CRKT Blued/Killik K2 Camo pattern I chose. I'm happy to see that it was one of the rifles that came out on top in this video! I knew I made the right decision!

Great video. I have to question the "no Savage" - while I agree that their blued rifles leave questions, however they do offer other barrel finishes. A number of models under $700US. They are known to be accurate, lots of great features ( accutrigger, accustock, accufit) and a very solid aftermarket. Not trying to be a Debbie Downer, but I don't think it's fair to judge Savage Arms on their entry level Axxis. I believe the Savage Model 110 Storm is sub$700 US (I'm in Canada, so they all cost more here) Great video but I'd love to see Savage get a fair shake

I will eventually put a Muzzle Brake on it. Anyway, I've been working up a load using Nosler 210gr. Accubond LR. With a different bullets and powder combination, I could get a much better group. With this combination I am getting .730 groups at 100 yards. In any of my guns factory or my custom built, I've always had problems getting tight groups with the Accubonds. Ballistic Tips, Berger or Sierra, I have no problem getting at least .500" out of them. I may switch it up in the Mossberg Patriot just to see what I can do. This is a very nice rifle for the money and works amazing. Hope it helps anyone who's curious about it. Thanks, Jeff D.

Some of the basic Savage 110 models might fit in this group, better than an Axis.

I like it. 👍. I think a weatherby vanguard should be included in this test though! I believe it would rank right near the top!

Better take that number on up to 1K , or maybe even $1200 Least you could get a howa, or a vanguard, maybe even a steyr or two .

Hey, Backfire! I can’t tell you how much I alleviate the work you put into your videos, and the incredible knowledge and testimony you offer! That being said, I’ve got a questioning was hoping you’d see and be able to answer. With your help, I’ve come to be torn between buying the CVA Cascade and the Weatherby Vanguard. They each one head to head competitions from your comparison contests and I’m wondering, which would you suggest between the two? Seems impossible to choose. I’m looking thinking specifically 30-06, if that matters towards your judgement. Thanks for the hours of great videos I’ve reached this week after discovering you!

CVA Cascade and Mauser M18 against Tikka T3x, Savage 110, and Weatherby Vanguard would be a hard comparison. I think you can find variants of them all under $700.

@@justinparks9081 yep, he ignores Bergara shitty actions and tree stand heavy. Lol
@ssimossimo576 Жыл бұрын
@@trentroberdeau6399 bergara shitty action? Why? It's known to be one of the best actions on the market for factory rifles.. Tikka fanboys are so scared about bergara taking the place as far as the go to rifle for the average hunter that they become funny at times 😂 after that their beloved tikkas wouldn't be as great as it looks now. The b14 hunter 308 weights 3.1 and the tikka t3xlite weights 2.9. You can't carry 200 grams more, that's what a smartphone weights.. if so, go to train a bit man, so you can bring maybe also a botte of water in your dynamic stalking hunts, if you have ever hunted
@ssimossimo576 Жыл бұрын
@@justinparks9081 what do you mean by "outperformes" specifically? Cause in accuracy usually B14s outperform tikkas and the reliability is totally comparable, as is the trigger. Tikka has a shitty stock and plastic shit everywhere so.. it's basically a decent action bolted to crap. Additionally, if you get a lemon (and it happens as you can see from the hundreds of threads about t3x lite issues on line) tikka won't do anything, while bergara has a great customer service. Tikkas are also the worst as far as recoil among all the hunting rifles i have shot, and i have shot many.

I have a Savage Axis in .308. It is the first and only rifle I purchased. My son and I went to the range to shoot it. I had previously sighted it in. On this trip he fired 4 shots at 100 yards. Maybe a minute or two between the shots. We then moved to 200 yards. When the range went hot, he started shooting. The first two rounds I think were good then they started going all over the place. After 6 or 7 rounds, I wouldn't think the barrel would be dirty enough to cause that. I figured the barrel was getting to hot. This was in Arizona and it was probably 100 degrees out. Should this gun be able to fire several shots in a row without heat impacting accuracy or do you think it is a dirty barrel issue or both?

Just IMAGINE if the Patriot actually shot well. When taking price into consideration, it would be at the very top of the sub 700 rifles. *Sigh*

@ssimossimo576 Жыл бұрын
Yeah the b14 is in a totally dofferent quality category. That said, the weight, as long as it's reasonable, it's a totally personal preference thing. This "test" is a joke. Also trying reliability cycling live ammo, ejecting live ammo, is a joke. That's not what the rifle is made for. wtf

kinda pitiful how far remington and winchester have fallen. time and bankruptcy passed them by. The bergara and mauser really look great, I need to check out that CVA. Mossberg has been getting a bad rap on accuracy for years. you would think they would fix that by now.
