Totally agree. The HG Coupe came close for curvaceousness, but lacked the sheer imposing massivity of the Falcons. The E49, same.

IMO the Falcon Hardtop was the best looking Australian car ever. Amazing how wide and low compared to the Commodore.

For it's size and weight, it's amazing how well the hardtop holds the road in the corners. I wonder how they'd go if the drivers swapped cars? If I had to choose between these two, it'd be the hardtop.

what is it with prople thinking these were either big or heavy? there is only about 50 kgs between these 2 cars for starters, secondly XBs were not that big at all, definitely wider than an early Commodore but not by much, and lengthwise there is almost nothing in it..

Yes it does look like an XC . I'm pretty sure the body stayed the same XA AB XC only the front end and tail lights changed? So it could be any one of them? I had an XB four door and an XA coupe. The coupe's on the road were terrible as you couldn't see out of them to park.

The XB Falcon coupe is easily the meanest, most badass-looking Aussie car of all time. But having said that, the dream car of every Aussie kid in the 70s was definitely the XC Falcon Cobra.

@@Philthy82 there’s a Vauxhall equivalent in Europe which the Commodore was based on. They look pretty much the same but the Euro car never had a V8 engine in it.

Back then Opel, Vauxhall and Holden was very much the same cars. Except for the placement of the steering wheel, and engines. Europe had smaller engines, probably because there were so many more cars. Which brings the question to mind, why does it need a V8 when a straight 4 can be tune to more horses from smaller displacement?

A V8 is cheaper and understressed. Since it's a pushrod, it's about the same size as an inline 4.

True about the sound.. but if it comes at half the mileage price, it's not worth it. Unless you're making big money.. In the end it just empties the oil reserves at a higher pace, compared to the small economic plastic buckets

@@mortenfrosthansen84 Low revs ensure it doesn't use much fuel. The Dodge Viper and Chevrolet Corvette showed that at Le Mans. Small and light engine, High displacement, and Low revs is the American way. Too bad the ACO put displacement restrictions, so now the Corvette has to resort to a 5.5 liter DOHC that revs to 7000 rpm instead of a smaller 7 liter pushrod that revs to 5700 rpm. It would be heresy to give a 5.5 liter to a Viper, but the car's dead anyway so it doesn't compete at LeMans anymore. Even with balance of performance being enforced in the GT class, the ACO still wants to nerf pushrod engines. Damn them.

As much as I love the big Ford coupe. What everyone is forgetting is the Falcon is heavier and has very average factory suspension compared with the Dunnydoor.
