I think that's more because the modern wolfhound is a huge % great Dane. I always find my collie staffy cross loves staffs or Collies more then any other dog and my staffy/bully both prefer their own breeds also

I used to regularly take my friend's Russian Wolfhound to the dog park, as her social anxiety prevented her from going. He played very well with dogs of all sizes, but his favourite thing in the world was to chase and then be chased in return. He loved the dogs that were closer to him in size, because it forced him to actually work for it - his average jog was enough to run down(or avoid) most medium-sized dogs running full-tilt. The great thing about the sighthounds is how easy they are to exercise. They want to RUN. And they can go like hell, but after a couple of kilometers they're 100% over it, and are quite content to go home and become couch potatoes that occasionally go to the bathroom for the rest of the day. They aren't nearly as demanding of stimulation as a lot of other breeds. They want to run until they're tired, and then curl up and watch TV with you.

anyone who understands the wolfhound breed is cringing at this video. they are extremely breakable at this age. long bones that arent fully developed as well as growth plates that need to fuse. a puppy from the same litter as my wolfhound had its back broken due to playing with a full grown dogs...just because a puppy is bigger than a full grown dog doesnt mean its ready to play with them

My families Irish wolfhound conserves his energy for the dog park too, problem is he only has a few dogs that like him because he’s so big, his favorite being a small pitbull that is the best of friends with him. Yours is so much more furry though! Just those huge tufts of hair, he’s a snuggle partner for sure!

It's amazing how these 2 dog breeds were mellowed down with selective breeding. The Great Dane was originally bred to hunt wild boar, wolves, bears and as fighting dogs while the Irish Wolfhound was originally bred to hunt wolves and as a flock guardian and sheepdog.

The Great Dane was created by crossing the Irish Wolfhound and the English Mastiff and they sprinkled in a little bit of Greyhound as well! I have an Irish Dane so to speak! 3/4 Irish Wolfhound and 1/4 Dane but with the makeup of the Great Dane that makes my puppy mostly Irish Wolfhound. My female puppy named Maeve is 5 months old today and over 80 lbs already!
