Battle of Titans: Hoka Cielo X1 vs Adidas Prime X2

I simply want to share with you a few reasons I believe the Hoka Cielo X1 is better than the Prime X2 Strung. Before you disagree with me, watch the video first. I also make this statement acknowledging that Adidas' Prime X2 Strung is one of my favourite running shoes and the most used running shoe in 2023.

@@AubreyRunning I tried on the Cielo X1 and my first reaction was wow this feels a lot like the prime X strung. Since I own both version 1 and 2 of the PXS I didn’t feel like I could justify adding the Cielo.

@@LiveLongLiveHappyI think it’s a matter of running style and fit. I LOVE my PXS1 I even went out recently bought a second pair. I have the PXS2 as well but they are crazy stiff. Takes time getting used to them but the PXS1 is my all time favourite. I really feel like Hoka tried to copy it which is fine. I’ll try on the Hoka but don’t see myself purchasing them. Race legal or not, I’m not going to podium any time soon.

I’ve run 8 marathons ( including 4 in 5 weeks) in the OG Prime X and 2 marathons in the Prime X Strung V1 and had no DOMS afterwards, no ankle issues and no stability problems. Enjoy your fun approach, not serious like a lot of other run channels! 👍

I have a cielo x1 and I’m definitely for it. Once you have them firmed down and tie a double knot, it will not budge. Furthermore I have taken this shoe for many long runs and they are awesome… no pressure points from the laces. Love the Cielos!

Some lacing systems plus the amount of upper material equal to make us need some time to be ready to go running with the shoes. I got one pair of shoes that is a bit complicated ( and I use the last lace holes too ,for better lockdown) to lace and unlace them every time, but the shoes are awesome for me : ON Cloud Stratus 3 .

Agree with the points made. The midsoles feel quite similar for me as well. One benefit the prime X2 has is that I find it has slightly more cushioning compared to cielo x1 especially on longer runs. Still amazing that hoka made a legal shoe that almost feels like a 50mm stack height shoe. The foam nearer to the midfoot of the cielo x1 actually has almost 50mm of stack height.

Respectfully, there's research & plenty of evidence that says otherwise - easy to find all over the place. These are niche specialty shoes and not how you characterized them, 'all around shoes', the makers of the shoes will tell you that. They're made for elite runners and absolutely not 'heavier runners'. They're also made for race day and certain specific type of training, not daily running. In my opinion, if your BMI exceeds 25, you probably should not be running in them at all. There's a downside to carbon plated shoes, people are suffering all sorts of injuries from their use and there are elite runners, physical therapist, podiatrist and coaches that advise not using them at all, ever. It's not all upside and skilled, talented runners abandon these types of shoes all the time. Notice when Aubrey talks about these shoes, he's careful to always do it in the context of race day & specific type of training runs - not daily use. The problem happening everywhere is people are using them as daily trainers - which is ill advised - by the makers of the shoes themselves...

I’ve found that all my Hoka shoes have worn down rapidly. I have 2 pairs of Prime X OG and a pair of Prime X Strung v1. I wear UK size 9.5. On picking up the 0:46 Cielo X it feels the same weight or even slightly heavier than my Prime X’s. Of course l don’t have the heavier PXS2! 👍
