Battle over Thomas Kinkade's fortune

The mistress of legendary painter Thomas Kinkade says she's entitled to some of his fortune and claims she has the letters to prove it. Rebecca Jarvis reports, then she and Jeff Glor spoke with San Diego Mercury News reporter Julia Prodia Sulek and celebrity divorce attorney Raoul Felder about the case.

It goes to show that you don't have to be a saint to create good in the world. Obviously, it's a noble and worthwhile thing to work on yourself. But you don't have to wait until you're flawless to beget a positive effect on your neighbors. Mr. Thom clearly had some demons, some tolerated and some inevitable. But the effect that his work had on people is undeniable. Regardless of motives, schemes, politics, scandals, what-have-you, these paintings touched people. Now go out there and do good despite yourself.

Either way the wife was going to clean out his clock, alive or dead. She filed paperwork to end the marriage first, not him. The girlfriend got into the middle of a big mess. Kinkade made his own bed with greed and ego, then cut a deal with Disney for more money. For a man who knew the Bible, he forgot it's important lessons. A really sad story.

Kinkade's "Art" is just about as bad as mine; but quality and technical expertise are not what is at question here. What is still an open question is if it is just plain "OK" to take people of faith down the proverbial road which ultimately ends with fraud and disillusionment. Like myself; our guess is that Kinkad knew he was a hustler all the time and he conveniently offed himself when the Devil cam to collect his due. That valium-alcohol addiction is one of the worst on earth. Maybe he can drink and drug in the Pat Robertson version of heaven.

RON JAGRAF/X His art was not “bad”, it was sterile. Cotton candy sweet. If you get a chance Check out his art, in his books. That he did way back before he started painting for the market. His work, especially his plain air pieces, were fantastic. The equal to any master. His technical expertise is second to none. It is what he did with it, and how his taste evolved, that are the shame. So it is not his painting skills that were bad, it was the direction he went with his skills.
