I was surprised to see that he didn’t actually paint his pics from start to finish. He had finishers complete them. Very enlightening. I know great artists in the past also did that, but it looked like a conveyor belt of paintings lined up for finishers. Nice to hear about his techniques, esp the use of a spray gun to get the misty glow look….I could care less about his personal life….” he who throws the first stone” …a lot of artists had/ have tortured souls…it’s what drives them…his paintings reflect what he longed for…peaceful glowing homes, comfort, an escape…

I am totally amazed with Thomas Kinkades paintings. In them brings an essence of peace and humbleness. Nevertheless, to also embrace ourselves to Gods beautiful creations. God used Thomas Kinkade for our benefit of going into the light. May he rest in God's everlasting love.

This is an interesting analysis of using acrylic and sealing the painting, then using oil paints in an archival way. Painters know you cannot paint with oils over acrylic, but Thomas Kinkade found a way which works! He was very inventive and pushed his learning curve in many ways. He was also very generous in sharing this knowledge with us. I wish we could have seen more of his work as he progressed through the years. RIP, and thank you Thomas.

you can paint oil over acrylic no problem. The issue is painting acrylic over oil as oil paint takes a long time to dry and acrylic dries quickly and can crack if over oil.

Yes it is too bad he did not practice what he talked about...faith.. love.. God. Alcohol and drugs seems to speak louder. RIP It is strange that he shows the very earliest of his paints and the very end of his painting like someone else paints them in between. His wife tried to hide a lot of things when he died...like his crap girlfriend knew something his wife did not want people to know about his paintings. I don't know I just heard what I heard on the news.

My daughter is a Hugh Kinksade fan. She has many of his paintings. Highlighted and signed by him in person. She turned me into a Thomas Kinkade fan. Not. I can’t afford his works. Therefore. I don’t own any of his. Paintings.

At last, the true story: All but forgotten evangelical painter Thomas Kinkade once was revered among Christians as the 'Painter of Light,' known for his sentimental scenes of country gardens and pastoral landscapes that led to a commercial empire worth $100 million a year. His life was much less pious, and far-less glamorous. Estranged from his wife, he was found dead in his bed with his much younger mistress. Published reports about the years leading up to the troubled artist's death paint a much different picture than the pseudo heavenly landscapes that earned Kinkade millions - it includes drugs, alcohol, 'territorial urination', misogyny and sexual harassment. Praise be.

Thomas was a genius. But maybe he wasn't as careful as he should have been with the spray painting and different toxic materials used by artists.

What Bob Ross does is a modern art technique called wet on wet oil painting. Unlike Kinkade, Ross lacks a lot of detail in his works. The reason for that is because Bob Ross tries to demonstrate (in only 30 minutes) at a beginner level that everyone can paint. Bob Ross was probably capable of producing a highly detailed masterpiece because he had several years of experience, but his works were all a demonstration that revolved around brush tricks to easily and quickly turn basic shapes into impressionistic landscapes. So how does Bob Ross compare to Thomas Kinkade? I'd have to say Bob Ross was more impressionistic whereas Thomas Kinkade was more detailed and realistic.

What people don't know is that he is very good friends with JAMES GURNEY the artist of DINOTOPIA. They both went to a very good art school called Art Center. Both have very success careers. Both are skilled painters but yet he was not accepted due to his highly commercial successful business. This haunted him as all artist yarns to be recognized.They travel together and did a book where they recorded they journeys by sketchbook and published that book in their early days.. Thomas K talks about God and very soft spoken and yet he had demons. As you listen to him this would be the furthest things from your mind. We all know that he had drub and alchol issues which lead to his death. It makes me wonder is there a God when he spoke about God in his painting. The only question as I watch this is why?? Are we random lives they wonders this world to achieve or not achieve with no responsibilities be it good or bad?

Look up Fire and Ice, they both worked on the background cells to this animation and it is beautiful , Frazetta did the figures which are also beautifully done. It is a lovely animation which you can watch on KZbin. Also look up James Gurney, he writes about Kinkade and some of their travel adventures together and they were college roommates BTW.
