I would just load my Executor up with TIE Defenders, it doesn't need bombers. And lets the Rebels try and take down the Executor when those high performance fighters they love so much struggle to even shoot down a single ship.

I love and hate this ship, there is a mod for Empire at War called Thrawn’s revenge and in it the AI is vile with these things, once I had a fleet with a Sovereign-class, Executor-class, few Praetor IIs with a support fleet of ISD IIs, Vic IIs and Lancers assault my borders and the only reason I was able to defend my borders is that I set up fall back lines with surface-based hyper velocity guns and just used attrition to destroy the support fleet and then outmaneuver the Dreadnoughts...this is why I love the game, you need to use clever tactics against an AI that cheats (the AI basically has infinite cash) after that assault the AI needed to replenish and gave me a window to capture its capital production facilities and it was all over after that

TeutonicKnight92 It cost me some 3 Praetors, couple ISD II, some old munificent-class frigates I had laying around (I was playing the Penstar alignment), and my fallback orbital defenses (2 light shipyards, 4 Golan Is) and my PC was going to melt down because of 2 Praetors and an ISD having a shootout with a Sovereign and and an executor (it really slowed my game down)

catmani2 Not in defense (maybe for the NR with Ion cannons), my experience with mass fighter blobs defensively is that if you don’t play the Remnant/PA/EoH/Warlords and plop down an interdictor(NR has a hero but she can’t be everywhere) it’s hard to kill these things with fighters as it takes long and they tend to run + they don’t have engine subs systems to destroy

catmani2 in Thrawn’s Revenge middles don’t pass through shields so you have to fully knock them down. Against an Executor that takes minutes of concentrated fire... or a ground based ion canon

The star destroyer's pointy shape makes for an excellent defensive profile, tilting forward would give up that advantage. That said there are always certain situations where you would want to sacrifice defence for offence. So it's a tradeoff situation.

I would understand that tactical reasoning if star destroyers were fighting capital ships, but most of the time they are fighting frigates to fighter crafts. Though Resurrected says they have done it sometimes, I've personally never seen it.

In terms of application, the Resurgent isn't much different from an Imperial class. That being said, the ship also acts as a full-on carrier and is thus more versatile and self-sufficient. Due to that fact and the overall superior design of the vessel, I prefer it over the Imperial class.

If I ever design a successor to the executor class with technology of the post empire era I would make it smaller around 8 kilometers cause advancements in technologly would allow vessels to be more compact and resource efficent without sacrificing combat effectiveness. Have numerous redudant shield generators and instead of an exposed bridge mounted on a tower superstrutcher I would have the command and control center deep within in the hull of the vessel elimating any chance of the vessel losing effective command and control in battle from rebels destroying the exposed bridge. Also I would increase the number of point defense weapons and have numerous starfighter hangers arranged for easy and quick mass launching and recovery yet are difficult to disable. Of course for the standard large captial ships I would go for battlegroups conisting of at least 2 Nebula class star destroyers as the line ships and Endurance class fleet carriers for starfighter power projection and have them escorted with a few frigates and corvettes for anti starfighter screens.
