For the dog portion this is what I’m thinking (before they took the quiz): Jake golden retriever (always happy, no thoughts, always making a mess but it’s expected and everyone still loves them for it) Ellis- boxer ( weird side eyeing everyone, looks aggressive but is calmer then you’d think and screams from time to time) Cath- pug (strange medical problems and barks when a different dog or person are trying to speak) Alex- greyhound ( strange, people don’t know how to approach them,no one know what their truly thinking) Gabby - American pit bull ( sounds intimidating, actually very loving, but get out of the way when they’re excited because the will bump into you at full speed) Nick - King Charles spaniel ( people person, gets a long with everyone, is really sweet, thinks they can be intimidating) This is in no way meant to be hurtful, this is more of a meme comment, and focusing on their strange quirks and vibes. Truly love all the hard work you guys do, you helped when I was recovering from a really tough surgery two years ago

I would like to add to the discussion about starting something at a later age. I've always wanted to do archery and it's only recently in the past two years that I finally looked at local archery clubs. I have a desire to get to a skill level where I can participate in high level competitions and perhaps the Olympics for the GB team. However, as I'm past thirty years old, I have a lot to catch up on compared to the younger athletes who have been practising archery since childhood, but I'm not going to let that stop me as I have my goals in my heart and I will do what I can to climb to that dream. There is a factor of realism that anyone has to consider when taking on a hobby that they want to do seriously, or something that is life changing for them. But the most important aspect is having the determination, desire, and drive to pursue it. Whether you fail or not, it's part of life but you don't want to look back and have regrets for something that never was.

The talk about the creative peaks that come after tragedy made me think. I've only heard a few COVID pandemic inspired songs thus far, but I think my favorite is Abigail Lapell's "All Dressed Up." Jumping on from what Ellis said about the confirmation bias about the helmets. I think I'm correct in saying that there was also arguements in WW2 for putting more armour on planes, because they were returning from patrol with hulls riddled with bullets, not counting the fact, until someone poited it out, that these were the ones making it back to land. They might have argued as well that they should actually be putting more armour where there weren't bullet holes, since obviously the planes that were hit there weren't coming back. Survivorship bias I think is the term

The part about doing something that you feel you want to do but don’t actually do it hit me hard. I’ve not long just turned 21 and pretty much since I turned 18, I’ve been setting high expectations for myself, and I feel I should stop doing that. It’s exhausting, I’m always second guessing myself, like I want to have a job but in a way I think I’ve convinced myself to not apply for jobs coz I feel “mentally unfit”, I know the opportunity is there but I want to break my cycle of convincing myself “ I’ll never get a job because of my mental health state and the disabilities I have”, I’m feeling limited from what I’ve told myself

RE: the development of AAA games taking so much; as much as people piss and rag on Star Citizen and its development, it's a VERY good example of the sheer gargantuian effort that is needed to actually produce a game of that size and calibre, and it's also a very interesting showcase of the process as well. RE: The point about art; a result of modern society and economy being insanely consumer oriented is that a lot of people look at art not necessarily as something to enjoy or learn to be good at, but also as a mealticket, which brings with it a push to be good enough to make it a marketable skill as a source of income. To the extent that they lose sight of the effort it takes to "get good enough" in order to make it a marketable skill.

With the games talk, I honestly think there needs to be a game market crash same as the 80s as when it happened it was because The quality of the games just wasn't there it was shoveled out poorly made crap. when you look at the games that came out after they were of surprisingly good quality because they Learned you need to put out games strategically and of good quality but within recent years the gaming company's seem to have forgotten that lesson It's just shoveled out, poor quality and so many releases at once no one knows where to put there money. Plus, if a game market crash did happen, the people who would most likely save it would be in the indie devs as there (mostly) passion projects that are made for specific genres or game type And if it was to happen like this, big companies would have to stand back and look at these inde devs and think "what are they doing better then us, that makes then successful" at Which point they would understand Making a game with better game play is better than overwhelming graphics. At which point would probably get a couple of years while for extremely good games I don't know if anyone else agrees with me, but honestly, that's my opinion on the matter. If you don't agree, then by all means, have your opinion on it and I Encourage it
@TehWarbird Жыл бұрын
Even if it would happen, it will still come back the same. The problem is some companies are focused on how much money they bring into their product rather than focus on the quality. For us consumers, we don't really enjoy that kind of behaviour but for these companies, as long as the cash is rolling, they will always stick to their formula. And because of sponsorships and investors, they wouldn't run out of money to cause said "Game Crash" unless people stop playing it which won't happen.

so, the thing Ellis was talking about with statistics isn't confirmation bias. Confirmation bias is when you have a preconceived idea and the you only look at evidence that supports that idea and disregard evidence that doesn't. What Ellis is talking about is actually called "survivorship bias".
