Dear Gabby: So, I decided to play Good Lookin' as I had to shower. Gave it a chuckle, then moved on. Then I realized, a few hours later, it was playing in my head. So I played it again, laughed again. Then I put it on repeat. So long story short it's in my playlist and I sing it unironically on my way to work for damn near a week now. God damn it Gabby.

My personal favourite album is 101 by Depeche Mode. Its a live album made during the height of DM's fame and the atmosphere is absolutely unparalleled. But my favourite artist is the Swedish power metal band Sabaton. Love how they retell lesser-known stories from history. From the Brazilian and Greek efforts in WW2 to the Siege of Vienna where the Austrians were defending against the Ottomans. Then, the Winged Hussars arrived!

Bloody love the Expanse. Only issue with the show is it was cancelled just before getting into the final part of the overarching story, which would cover the last three books and tie up a lot of plot threads it leaves hanging. Which is a shame because what happens in those last three books is incredible.

Is the new telltale game the expanse based off the show?

@@shadowraith94 Its related but not based on the show afaik. Its a prequel story for one of the shows major characters in later seasons.

Gonna recommend the TV show Taskmaster. British comedians competing in reality TV style tasks to benefit charity. Just good fun. Recommended movie is Ex Machina. Sci fi thriller starring Domnhall Gleeson as a office worker who gets invited to the remote estate of a reclusive techbro billionaire, played by Oscar Isaac, to do a modified Turing test on a newly created artificial intelligence, played by Alicia Vikander. Blackouts and other weirdness start happening, and the main character realizes there's more happening than he's been told. Book is Howl's Moving Castle, hands down. It's a French novel the Miyazaki film was based on, and both are genuinely fantastic, but different enough that I highly recommend both, as well as the the two follow-up novels by the same author. Artist is Grabbitz, who does Electronica mixed with rock, with a heavy emphasis on the vocals. I'd start with Pigs in the Sky, but any of his songs are good. Honorable mention is Rusalka, Rusalka by The Decemberists.

Dude I'm not even 5 minutes in and I already have a PTSD flashback (joking and not joking) about trying to let out a quiet fart😭😅. I was in Junior School Year 4, we had assembly in the mornings, one time we had it in the gym hall. I was sat in the middle, I felt a fart creeping up and of course thought I could let it out and it would be a quiet one... It came out and it ROARED all around the gym. Every set of eyes that were in front of me, looked back at me, and I wanted to cry. My friend at the time was sat next to me and tried to make me feel better by holding my hand. Later that day, a student who was known to be an ass asked me "Why did you fart in the gym?", I didn't reply... I am still traumatised by that to this day. RIP

Recommendations of mine: For movies, Arrival would be the best. Aliens come to earth and two scientists need to decipher their language. Everything about this movie is so poignant. For shows, "Gaya sa Pelikula" is good. It's one of our shows here in PH, and you can watch it in YT. It's about two boys, one out and one in the closet, and the struggles they face as LGBTQ and falling in love. For songs, anything probably from Ben and Ben if you want some starters for OPM (Original Pinoy/Pilipino Music) For a book, it's a series named "The Land of Stories," books where classic fairytales are retold for the perspective of two children adventurers travelling their land. I would have recommended "Si" by Bob Ong, a book about the life of an unnamed man told in his perspective where each chapter is his age and they're structured in books backwards so you read the story of his life from old age to mother's womb. This book's not translated yet, though.

Enjoying the podcasts, I read 'The Choice by Edith Eger' as was recommended on amazon, on the font cover it says 'Even in hell hope can flower'. If you like books based on events of WW2 etc ive read 'Inside the gas chambers by Shlomo Venezia' which is an insight to what those that had to work as the Sonderkommando, and 'Last stop Auschwitz by Eddy de Wind'. Other books ive read are Working Stiff by Judy Melinek M.D and T.J Mitchell which is forensic pathology in real life events. Can't wait for the next podcast.

The Expanse is a wonderful show about how it would be if everyone involved in space was extremely dumb. Hell we have a constant war going with both sides having planetbuster weapons, but somehow the war is supposed to have stakes. The main characters are about the dumbest characters in existence and survive by sheer massive plot armor, while being basically terrorists that somehow never have to take responsibility for their actions. The idea that we would somehow go to the speeds their bs engine can do without developing some kind of protection against even base kinetic impacts is ridiculous.

Dark was a absolute masterpiece to watch, the concept of time travel and other things is exceptional, it doesn't feel sci-fi rather it feels like something like the phenomenon can occur in real life. Somethings in the show might to hard to understand, ever for me who is interested in time travel, but if you want a show to keep you engaged and intrigued, dark is the best in my opinion.

The other thing about spam emails is that they're really cheap to do. You can send hundreds or thousands or emails a day, which you can't really do with phone calls or paper mail, and it's much quicker and easier to reply to anyone who falls for it. And on top of that it's much easier to set up a new email address if you get shut down than it would be to set up a new phone number. Not to mention that spam can fail 99.9% of the time, but if you've sent out 10,000 emails, that's 10 people you've tricked.

100% agree on the Expanse. It's so so good. The book series is awesome as well. The writers' take on tech is basically, "keep it simple, don't over research, don't over explain and make it cool. " I think that is why the series is just so good. No space magic. In an interview they were asked "How does the Epstein Drive work?" and the response was "Exceptionally well." hahaha It's worth reading the books because there is some stuff that was left unresolved in the series that is resolved in the books.

One series i absolutely adore is the anime Girls und Panzer. Despite the admitatly silly premise(school girls in tank battles), the animation and writing are really solid. The boat load of little history easter eggs, down to characters birthdays matching major battles and events, make it a blast to watch. The attention to detail on the tanks is also so high that many tank buffs consider it the beat work of tank fiction. Admitatly the physics become more guidlines that rules but i think we should be able to excuss that when it lets us watch a Pershing chase a L3 33 down a set if roller coaster tracks. P.S. Most of the schools are themed around a specific school. The british themed school (St Gloriana) has a named Darjeeling who always carries a cup of tea with her and gifts sets of tea cups to those she sees as worthy opponents. The steriotypes are strong but fun.

A friendly russian guy speaking. I hate the chernobyl tv show by hbo. All of the interactions of government are made up by the screenwriters, read up on the interviews with the Liquidators (straight up gigachads) - they all went to Chernobyl clearly understanding the consequences. The government made sure to supply them until the fall of USSR. Same thing with secrecy: Valery Legasov's report to community was as open as it could be. Recent additions to the report were only in minor details. Just so you know.

Y'know, my biggest gripe isn't even that I feel obligated to unpack the statement "the Chernobyl TV show is an educational portrayal of what always happens under communism". It's that if I did I'd have to do it in the company of cringy soviet LARPers for whom "stalin did nothing wrong" is not a very, _very_ ironic meme. It just isn't possible to have a serious, principled conversation about the failings of socialist states without feeling like you're either carrying water for the CIA or being read as an ushanka-wearing terminally online dork.
