Battlebot DOOMBA Weapons Test

Doomba team really got the short end of the stick if you listen to what happened around this and their next match. Basically they pass safety and get designated as a reserve robot. They have one frame with two sets of armor: one with plastic armor and one with heavy duty steel. They get called up and get told they're going to fight Rusty, so they load up their bot with the lightly armored shell. Rusty is borked (ofc) so instead they get Double Tap without time to change the bot to the metal shelled version. They get tapped and the bot is absolutely rekt with the armor peeled off and half the electronics messed up. They repair the frame/electronics and (I think) get told they're going to fight Rusty again, so they load up into the pre-fight battery tent again, Rusty is still borked and then get told they have to fight Double Tap again. They refuse and I think later they get a more reasonable match. Just a very crappy situation overall, since they could have faired a lot better in their first match vs Double Tap if they just got the news a bit earlier and had time to prepare their other armor configuration.

Isn't this the kind of thing people blast BattleBots for fairly often? I've seen several stories of bots getting screwed over in the competition because of stunts like that.

I think a fight between Rusty would be more fair. As much as I like Doomba, he can’t do much against a giant spinner like Double Tap

@@electricnick260 It's a bit of a problem but at least last season they managed to get the fight nights sorted out beforehand so people in the tournament ended up with a way better schedule they could plan around with. The situation with DOOMBA is just sad as with reserve/alternate bots they just try to fit the fights in whenever and if bots are having issues (like Rusty) it overcomplicates things and unfortunate situations like this just happen. I don't think you can put the entire blame on the BattleBots producers, it's just how things go when it's all ad-hoc without any possibility to really plan it out since you can't really predict if a bot is ready or not, that's why they weren't included in the main tournament.
