I love our flintlock season here in PA. I gave up on rifle hunting and wait for flintlock. I see more deer and usually tag out. I started approaching it like early archery. I head for the food. It's cold, they have to eat. Crabapples is a good place to go. I really like old abandoned homesteads. I have one place that has pear and plum tree's with the apple trees. Nuts is a good area also if there isn't a bunch of snow.

It’s absolutely my favorite season as well! You nailed it though, food is the key especially if there is good bedding close by! Good luck this season!

I can't wait, all the fruits and berries did really good. You have a good season too. Let the smoke fly.

Crazy big frame on that buck!! It’s wild that he was completely smooth where the brows tones are…some areas there is a gene that the bucks don’t get brows…we have a string of that over in Potter. Awesome video Aaron!
@Legendary_Pursuits3 жыл бұрын
I know right!?! Not even a hint of a brow tine. A lot of the bucks I've taken in this area have missing or short brow tines. But then again, I'll get some big ones on camera that have it all so who knows... Thanks for watching man! Appreciate it!

Yes he was, I believe I have his shed from the year prior but hadn’t ever laid eyes on him until then. Amazing how they can survive on public land like that!

What size flints do you use
@Legendary_Pursuits2 жыл бұрын
5/8” but I usually have to play around with them a bit to get them to fit/spark correctly. My frizzen is considerably smaller than on other flintlocks.
@matthewlyness81612 жыл бұрын
Oh ok I just picked up the same rifle I'm using RMC OX YOKE 3/4 great spark I'm thinking about maybe going to a French Amber Flint either 1/2 or 5/8
@Legendary_Pursuits2 жыл бұрын
Nice, it’s been a good flintlock for me. Just use whatever works best for you, i shied away from 3/4 because I didn’t want to risk hitting the barrel if it got bumped a little. I’d like to get a beefier replacement lock for it eventually.

Me either, it’s my favorite season! Hoping to put a few flintlock videos out this year! We’re in the northwest part of the state. Good luck!

So did u just let the buck go in hopes of a bigger one or was it because of no clear shot?
@Legendary_Pursuits2 жыл бұрын
I had already filled my buck tag in bow season so all I could do was watch… There were 6-7 does with 65 yards of me all night but I just couldn’t get a clear shot in the brush.

Orange not required?

Not during the late flintlock season. Often times we will wear and orange hat though, especially if we are hunting with multiple guys.

Seems like a lot of guys go that route. I bought some model car paint and it’s doing well so far. I also put a paint stick in my field bag just in case I need to touch it up while hunting.

Who ever reads this ,, 1 thing I learned is weather is early fall,,, fall ,,or winter if you hunt from the ground and got your spot take your foot and clean all the leaves away from where you will be set up at ,,I go all the way around the tree , so you can move freely with out making noise, and if it's rut time that sounds like another buck ,,and it's good cover sent besides,,good luck and hope this helps
