New Weapon: The Chauchat is a Support LMG from 'they shall not pass' dlc
Chauchat Low Weight: can be unlocked by getting 50 kills with the Lewis Gun Suppressive, and 75 resupplies with the ammo crates and pouches.
Chauchat Telescopic: can be unlocked by getting 15 kills in a round with the M1909 Benet Mercie Telescopic, and getting 10 kills with the mortar.

ahrixis:tK It will get you all the DLC as they come out, higher priority when waiting for spots on a server to open up, early access to dlc maps, and I think you also get access to the community test environment servers. It's worth it if you plan to put a lot of time in the game but opinions vary wildly on the actual value.

Not really. Read Forgotten Weapons' article on it and it displays it as a capable and even effective infantry support weapon after its design had been revised. It seems somewhat comparable to the SA80A1 in how it was revised following its first model being disliked, which incidentally could be argued to be the worst firearm adopted by a military. That and the type 94 nambu, check TFB TV for their video on that piece of garbage.

Even though Apocalypse is said to be the final DLC for BF1, I wished they added the Serbian army and Belgrade, as well as Gallipoli. EDIT: So basically the Chauchat is the WWI equivalent of an AK rifle. It's not meant to be flashy or elegant, but it's simply there to get the job done right.

Actually with support weapons in bf1 burst/tap firing is a bad idea. The support weapons gain accuracy as you continue to shoot them.

the myth of the chauchat being a terrible weapon comes from American soldiers in ww1. In reality the Chauchat when chambered in 8mm lebel worked just fine. it fed, fired, and extracted just as intended. the Americans requested an version chambered in 30-06 and that is where the issues came up. the way the gun was designed could not make the 30-06 cartridge function well at all. misfires, jams, and extraction issues were the norm with the 30-06 version of the machine gun. That is where the legend of the shittiest machine gun of ww1 came from.

False. The only additionnal problem the American version had was an issue while ejecting the cartridges. Otherwise, it needed to be handled with MUCH CARE, as it could get jammed (or worse: damaged) due to dirt and mud. Not only that, but it could overheat easily, as it was made of aluminium and wood. Go in any war museum and they'll tell you just that (as I got my info from a French museum in Normandy itself...)

It fed, fired and extracted exactly as intended... So long as it was on a perfectly dry firing range and kept in pristine condition. If it got slightly dirty, it would jam. If you dropped it, it would break. If you could get it firing for any sustained period it would overheat and warp. If it broke, good luck fixing it in the field. You would be better off just picking up a rifle. Just because its innovative doesn't make it good. A gun that can only fire if its perfectly clean and in perfect conditions is not much use to a soldier.

It would only warp after 400-500 rounds successively. Which takes a long time at 300 rpm. For its price and time period it was fine. It was also lighter than most machine guns and acted like an automatic rifle for its time. The main issue was the magazines were not great.

This thing sounds like a beast and performs like one once you get a feel for it. Like it quite a bit. You'll still *generally* get outgunned by SMGs and shotties at close range but anywhere else you can work some real damage with good control. Close range hip-fire usually works pretty well too, as long as it's 1v1. Fun weapon to use.

The two main problems with the Chauchat besides the ergonomics that contributed to it being a bad gun, was the long-recoil action which gave it lots of recoil and a low rate of fire, and the open magazine which led to major issues with feeding ammo when dirty. If you could make a Chauchat that was short recoil operated and with a fully enclosed magazine, many of its crippling issues would vanish.

A note on the American Chauchat: They actually fixed the guns before the US was fully deployed in Europe, and they were all trained up for the 30-06 ones, but they pulled them at the last minute and handed them 8mm French Chauchats. Why that was, i don't know. Maybe the reputation of the earlier 30-06 model finally got up to people who could pull it from service and they did so, but not knowing about the fixed version. Or maybe it was logistics. Who knows.

The models that were made for the Americans chambered in .30-06 had most of their chambers reamed wrong which would lead to so many failing. It was such a problem that somewhere near a quarter of the .30-06 variants would fail individual testing before leaving the factory. Aside from the half moon magazines the french models faired much better, however another problem they had was their long recoil operating system. If they were fired for an extended period of time the barrel would heat up and get stuck somewhere in it's path while it reciprocated.

I would say it's main issue in real life is that sustained fire would stop the gun from cycling because of thermal expansion effectively jamming the bolt.

after so much grinding (the Lewis gun is so hard to use) I finally have the chauchat low weight. It's my favorite gun in the game. As it looks good and sounds pretty good. it's really powerful and it makes up for it's super small clip

Check out Forgotten Weapons and his review of a real Chauchat. He dispels many of the myths surrounding it and shoots with one. It was a mass produced automatic weapon a whole world war ahead of its time. The UK and USA only produced about 50,000 Lewis guns combined - compared to the 5 times(!) as many CSRG-15's (Chauchat). The British manufactured 12,000 Vickers machine guns. In a long war of attrition *quantity* definitely plays an important role. It was lighter (9kilos) than the Lewis (13 kilos), never mind the heavy German MG08/15 (21 kilos) and the rare Bergmann LMG 15 which weighed in at 14 kilos. And the myth of it constantly jamming was born out of the hastily re-chambered M1918 version which was faulty straight out of the factory.

It's probably the most accurate support weapon behind the Madsen as it doesn't do that annoying side to side thing all the others do, Telescopic is worse as it has more recoil and the range at which it would be useful, the gun cannot compete but it is perfectly capable of shooting to it's max range from iron sights. If it had a big mag it could maybe compete with the m1917.

It wasn't just the reasons you mentioned that made the Chauchat so bad. It also had a long travel bolt which was heavy and caused the weapon to jump around terribly even on the bipod. It also made for a very slow rate of fire. The Lewis gun is a far, far better weapon and Dice's decision to make the Chauchat better in the game is baffling.

Oh bye it’s not classified as a LMG. there are seveaal classes of machine rifles. It was an assault rifle of its time. Small magazine of 20 rounds and was loaded with 16-19 usually. Not an lmg in the slighte in that regard if the maxim was a thing in ww1. It want an lmg either but they weren’t really pmts during then either. They were MMGs. Medium machine guns. The maxim was a stationary HMG heavy machine gun that was meant to lay down suppressive fire and maintain it. HMGS sacrificed firepower for mobility and the LMG was super portable and had to give up a lot of firepower. It could still be an effective weapon but nothing to the HMG. Even the. It still wasn’t an lmg. It’s the first of its kind and then the browning m 1918 came around the fix the 30-06 conversion failure

I hate how weapon in this game are not immersive at all. The ROF for the Chauchat is about 250 rpm ( not 360 rpm ), got a long-recoil system, so when you reload you can have 20 + 1 round and not always 20; and i am not even speaking about AA sight...

low weight? the portable Hotchkiss Benet Mercié did weight 12kg empty, so only 1 kg less than the Lewis who was know as very heawy...the Chauchat did weight 8,7kg, with full ammo this was pretty leight in that times...

In battlefield 1 the variants of the guns are called things like low weight, supressive, storm, trench etc. It got nothing to do with the actual weight of the real gun. To get the weapon he his talking about in the video you have to use a specific variant of a specific gun. That was my point, not real life statistics

A guy who actually pronounces it correctly. What a world. Also, it was actually a pretty effective weapon. Maybe not individually, but the French had a fuck ton of them, and it didnt need an insane rate of fire because it wasnt dealing with quick moving targets to kill. This was trench warfare. It was probably dealing with soldiers moving right towards it. It wad just that the .30-06 the Americans got was complete garbage. That was definetly the worst lmg ever issued to any army ever.

I used to love this gun but the recoil changed and I don't like it anymore.

I might be the only one really disliking this weapon as it didn't in any way fit in my playstyle and constant reloading, bad looking sights and it didn't feel very accurate. I barely got the 20 kills challenge done with this weapon before giving up as using it was really grinding my raisins to dust. Don't get me wrong, I main some weapons that some people usually hate (like Lebel 1886, very underappreciated) so this ain't any attack of sorts. But I just didn't find a good spot to use this gun very effectively, except once and it felt very lackluster.
