Remember when the M1907 SL had a tiny magazine? When the Automatico's bolt fully reciprocated? When the Lewis Gun had a different over-heating animation? When the Rocket Gun had a calmer reload animation? When people were actually complaining that it wasn't authentic WW1? Those were the days.

+Prowbar Hardline had new animations. 3 and 4 used a few of the same, yes. 4 improved upon a lot of 3's. Personally I don't find the pistols horrible. They're obviously deliberately stylised and way better than all the previous pistol animations in BF

Most of these weapons didn't see widespread use. Like the Mondragon, they germans had maybe 3600 of those and they were never used by infantry due to the fact any amount of dirt in the action would cause them to jam. It should be mainly SMLEs and Gew98s and a few stationary machine guns. However, this being battlefield, I already know everyone is just gunna be running around hosing each other down with automatic weapons equipped with some form of reflex sights.

Those fucking rear sights are absolutely horrendous, but alas it's meant for the console kiddie crowd so you gotta have mile wide rear sights so they can see them on their shitty old TVs. Also I HOPE that the Cei-Rigotti using Carcano clips as stripper clips is just a placeholder, but considering that they're not even in the little locking slot for the speed loader it seems they are, which is good. And unless the player characters are all bodybuilders, it's literally impossible to sprint around holding a Lewis Gun (which weighs 28 POUNDS UNLOADED) plus multiple extra pan magazines. Your arms would be screaming with pain because of how fucking massive, heavy, and ungainly the gun is. There's a reason why they were almost always used in static positions, same for the Hotchkiss M1909, which was DESIGNED to be used only in a static position (it doesn't even have a proper stock!). And I almost forgot the elephant in the room: the Cei-Rigotti itself. Less than five made, manufactured in 1900, the time difference from the time they were made to when BF1 obviously takes place (1918-ish) is the same as when the M1 Garand was made; 18 years. And I bet you, I bet you it's only in the game because they saw a few pictures and went 'hey this looks cool let's do no research whatsoever except find some pictures and put it into the game'. Oh DICE... If you're gonna make a game about WW1, make sure you use your brains when implementing the weapons. Oh and the C96 automatically closes its bolt when you pull the stripper clip out, it doesn't stay neatly in place so you can put another stripper clip in, meaning you have to hold back the bolt if you were to put another clip on or handload rounds, which would make you eject one round. There's a good reason they went to detachable magazines for most of the 'trench carbines'.

You know, they could have avoided all the historical inaccuracies by just stating that its an alternate history scenario. RevanBladeZ It says: Battlefield 1 is BASED on events that unfolded over 100 years ago. It's the same as when movies say BASED on a true story. I wonder why they have you remove used clips by hand even though most weapons automatically eject the clip when you close the bolt.

RevanBladeZ Mud got stuck with in the Mannlicher Clips' ejection chamber; though somewhat fixed. Spitzer Bullets were invented which had trouble fitting. And it gave off positions by the loud sound as the Mannlicher clip dropped.

The only visual thing that really bugs me is that it looks like you're firing solar flare tracer rounds all the time - heck, running through cross-fire could almost resemble Star Wars now. Just a little thing, but to me it does kind of break some of the immersion with huge fireballs glowing across the sky. Apart from that, the game looks amazing and I cannot wait to play it :)

Any historical reference on the AT rocket launcher?
@kaemoncole51618 жыл бұрын
The AT Rocket gun? That's a 1.59 Inch Breech-Loading Vickers Q.F. Gun Mk.II. Quite a name, I know. It was used in the later years of warfare, being first issued in 1917. The name it's been given in Battlefield however, is very misleading. First off, it wasn't actually designed to be an anti-tank gun, but a mobile artillery piece to be used by infantry in attacking fortified positions (Pillboxes, bunkers, etc.) Was one ever used against an armoured vehicle at any point in time? Maybe. There were tanks and armoured cars on the battlefield back in the day, so it's certainly possible. As is, the second part of the name is also misleading. It's not actually a "rocket gun". It fires a shell, which means that it has no propulsion of it's own, just the blast from the charge in the cartridge, much like any standard firearm, if that firearm was to be absolutely massive in caliber. Furthermore, it's not a recoil-less weapon, like you see in rocket launchers of the more modern era, as recoil-less technology was not developed until later in and around WWII. To put it simply, you could never shoulder-fire this weapon. Ever. It'd knock you clean off your feet, and that's why it has to be braced in game. Any more questions? Feel free to ask.
@yellamo9638 жыл бұрын
so why the F**k don't they just change the name to Vickers MK.II. AT. or VMK.II.
@kaemoncole51618 жыл бұрын
My guess as to why they didn't change the name? Legal restrictions. You see, the Vickers name doesn't exactly belong to one company. It started off in a steel mill in the early 1800s, with Edward Vickers at it's head. The name was very successful, so the business branched into multiple, all bearing the same name. A conglomerate, essentially, all under the same Vickers name. You had your Vickers steel mill, your Vickers armoury, your Vickers church bells, your Vickers ships, and your Vickers aircraft. They all fell under the same organizational structure, but at the same time, were individual companies. Why is this a problem in the modern-day? Well, the Vickers name was bought out by Roll's Royce right before the turn of the century, in 1999 and renamed to Vinters. Either they probably don't want videogames using their Vickers names to refer to weapons... Or there was simply so many things bearing the Vickers name, that they didn't want to confuse people. I mean, can you imagine someone calling out to their team-mate to "take out that Vickers", and they then have to pick between shooting an artillery piece, an aircraft, or a machine-gun emplacement.
@yellamo9638 жыл бұрын
Thats why i suggested VMK.II. The way its in game will have kids/ppl yelling out ''Take out that rocket launcher'' because if you put rocket in name the players are not going to use its proper term there just going to shorten it. And in my opinion it shouldn't even be in the game considering it was a useless piece of equipment.
@kaemoncole51618 жыл бұрын
It was for the most part, fairly useless as it's shells were horrifically underpowered, even at that day and age, to deal with any substantial armoured threats. Each shell weighed only just over half a kilogram, which may sound like a lot, but is really about equivalent to a good, solid hand-grenade. Nor was it particularly long-ranged either, with maximum distance being just over three hundred meters. Muskets could fire farther than that. However, it had one distinct advantage which is probably why it's in the game. It's mobile. It required only one man to carry and operate, which is ideal for Battlefield's idea of a rocket launcher equivalent. Direct firepower in a hand-held package. Of course, from a historical stand-point, this is a short-lived and largely useless weapon, especially when compared to the effectiveness of something like the Stokes mortar, but to a game developer, it's perfect for it's replacement of the launcher, and that's most likely why it's in game.

What is that thing on the C96's back end that the hammer hits? Is it a striker? Anyway, it disengages by itself after the last shot is fired, which looks awkward (I suppose at full speed it's too quick to notice but it's there). Also it must be said that the MP18 looks like a terrible weapon design. I'd be surprised if anyone could fire something that mounts a drum magazine on the side straight.
@gamerguy44768 жыл бұрын
The C96 uses a short-recoil mechanism, and the bolt (the large piece of metal that the hammer hits) is, in fact, the striker, as well as the part of the pistol/carbine that resets the hammer, allowing it to keep firing without manually resetting the hammer each time. Once you fire off the last round, the bolt automatically locks in the "open position" (the bolt is stuck above the hammer), allowing for simpler reloads and faster reloads. The MP-18 uses the side mounted magazine to (not 100% sure of this) reduce the profile, allowing the operator to be less of a target. The MP-18's side mounted magazine well is replicated in weapons such as the Sten Gun, the Johnson LMG, the Lancaster SMG, and the Sterling SMG, however most do not use a giant drum for feeding. The MP-18 can be fired with the drum magazine, but it is so bulky, I think it would have been better for Germany to have gone with a stick magazine instead of a drum. There is one weapon with worse ergonomics than the MP-18 though: *The Luger P08 Artillery Carbine With the Drum Magazine Attached*
@SolidSonicTH8 жыл бұрын
For the C96 I did understand it was recocking the hammer like the slide would on a 1911 but since it doesn't look connected to the ejection mechanism, I wasn't sure what it was referred to as (since the slide both recocks the hammer and works to eject the spent cartridge).
@gamerguy44768 жыл бұрын
SolidSonicTH If I remember correctly, the bolt has a brass extractor on it. I will need to check whether that is correct or not.
