it's sad that they always show the story from an Allied point of view. Playing as a German or Turk in the campaign would have been a good tribute to their sacrifice as well.

One thing I don't like about the campaign's gameplay is how each character basically takes on an entire division of enemy soldiers by themselves, when in reality warfare is very much a team effort. I understand that this game is merely _based_ on actual events, but it would've been a lot more immersive if the true scale of things was historically accurate. Thousands of men charged and died attacking enemy lines, but here we just see one guy taking on the world. It's reminiscent of the old Medal of Honor games, where because of the limited computing powers of the time, game developers were forced into that type of one-man vs. the world storyline. *With all that being said*, I did really like (and wished they continued) the idea of continuing on as another soldier when one gets killed. It makes the desperation of survival all the more real.
@tahnolikessharing8 жыл бұрын
darkrage6 Farfetched is right. Although cinematically it looks like an exceptional game, in my opinion it would be much more thrilling if it adhered to the grand scale of things. Because in reality, small squadron warfare wasn't introduced until WWII, yet here we see exactly that. Personally, I'm over storylines in "historical" warfare video games, they're too restrictive. To this day I still play Modern Warfare, because although it adheres to a storyline, there are still level where you just go in guns-blazing as a soldier, without being restricted by cut scenes and overly particular objectives within the level.

WWI is where small unit tactics actually developed. The Germans were the first to break the chain of command in 1915, allowing field officer initiative, and forming assault squads in spring of 1915. These would later become the WWI storm troopers. By 1917 most countries had their own squad based command systems. Units would have specialized roles: lmg squad supplying cover with things like the Lewis gun, rifle advancing, half with way more than normal grenades saturating a position with them, flamethrowers when available. Assault groups would cut off and bypass hard to take strong points, enveloping them but leaving them for the heavy hitting groups to assault. Artillery by late war was precise; with short surprise rounds vs the saturation bombardments of the earlier years. Creeping and advancing barrages, etc. Problem was the gridlock on the Western front ran the whole length of the continent so there was no real way to flank around. What I'm driving at is WWI started tactically stuck in the 1870's, but by war's end the modern small unit tactics we see still today were in use. I highly recommend Ludendorf and Rommel's (his WWI works) books on infantry tactics to get a better insight into it.
@camrendavis66507 жыл бұрын
Elephants Fly what you're saying makes a lot of sense, but one man taking on an entire platoon or more isn't impossible. There have been many soldiers who have taken on hundreds of enemy troops single-handedly. Sometimes out of luck or just quick thinking. I mean hell there was just one guy ( I think he was French) in World War 1 who killed over a hundred enemy troops with nothing but a longbow and a Medieval sword

"My legs are springs. Steel springs. They're going to hurtle me down the track. Like a leopard." -"Gallipoli", 1981 More historically accurate than this game. But I'm not detracting from BF1 - the story had to be adapted to meet the demands of the genre.

The British fleet used for the run of the Dardanelles and the eventual amphibious invasion of Gallipoli and the surrounding areas performed very ineffective. The pre-dreadnought battleships primarily of the Formidable-class were deemed dispensable by the British Admiralty. The accuracy and effect of the guns reaped very little fruits.

this game had so much potential and failed. there should have been 2 or 3 separate full battlefield series games fully fleshing out world war i!!! the single player campaign is too short and the narrative is terrible. i was pumped during the prologue and was hoping the first 2 hours, not only the first 15 minutes, would be you participating in infantry-only trench warfare with chaos and crazy stuff happening while you rush the enemy's trenches. and this mission 'the runner' has such an epic intro and overall feeling. they could have made a game that was only about the gallipoli battle. and where is that hand-to-hand combat with the battle mace that was promised and alluded to in that flashy trailer many months ago?

tailsofUSSR21 it's a fucking terrible game. a woman at the end also? so politically correct too. the game should have been like the prologue where it's just trench warfare and you play like 100 different players that die at the end of their missions. it turned into 'you're a superhero like in WWII games'
