fun fact from the Great War, pigeons were the main source of communication at the time, nothing else was more reliable than a trusty pigeon, they had a success rate of 90% what's even more remarkable is that the pigeons were targeted once spotted, some would finish their journey with horrific wounds, broken legs, cuts and even losing eyesight. taking that into account while listening to this song....yup...I'm fucking crying lol

Considering the fact that often the only available method of communication in the field were pigeons or runners, pigeons indirectly saved many runner's lives as their casualty rate was through the roof.
@vulthurmir2478
@vulthurmir2478 2 жыл бұрын
@@silvorthegrand6976 not only that, a runner is more likely to get shot because: he's bigger; on the same height as targets for bullets and tank/artillery shells; slowed/stopped by barbed wire, destroyed tanks, bodies, trenches and overall imperfect terrain itself. Not to mention that a pigeon could hide in the sky better than a fully grown man could on an active warzone. They saved a lot of lives by delivering messages where couriers weren't able to do so in time or at all.

I think he means that it was referred as the "War to End All Wars", but in fact it didn't. Wars never ended wars. The second world war occurred after nearly 2 decades, making that an obvious irony ^^

Karim Sandouka it was called the war to end all wars because it was the last time that the final standing empires of the world would clash. Like the ottomans, the Austro-Hungarians, Germany under the rule of the Kaiser. In many respects it was the war to end all wars but I think people misinterpret it's meaning

One day, in a match of operations, I was an Italian soldier, desperately looking for victory on Iron walls because I can never beat it, the adventures and the slaughterhouse of the final fortress of monte grappa and empires edge was the most intense experiences I have ever had, but in 1 match my team managed to break through the monte grappa forts and into the Adriatic coast with 1 last battalion then a path to victory. This is probably my most satisfying operations victory ever. For one, monte grappa was a hard map to beat on operations, and second, it really brings chills to my bones when I hear the victory speech of the Italian general and the historical significance of the battle. Oh damn it was a great adventure, after the match was over, heading to the main menu and this song played, i stopped moving for a sec, went speechless and a tear rolled down my eyes, this was the battle I will never forget.

T5IVEPICTURES definitely one of the best parts of the game. Goes to show war ain't pretty in any case, especially when the war is pointless and has no purpose. DICE really went all out with this one. Best FPS of 2016 in my opinion up there with Overwatch and Titanfall 2. Beast gameplay, touching soundtrack, and message.

I heard a story from a World War 1 veteran. On the final day of the war, when all the guns fell silent, apparently the sun came out and the birds flew and began to chirp away. Neither side wanted to kill the other. Everyone in each trench was equal, forced by their leaders to fight in the perilous war. In war, there are no winners.

Battlefield 1 and Valiant Hearts really puts you in the shoes to show you how much carnage war can really bring. Both stories touched my soul. The pigeon flying hit me the hardest though. I hope they add more war stories in the future. Moral of the story war is over the top fun in video games, and hell it is, but it ain't pretty in real life. If you combine the death toll of both World Wars, more than 100 million perished... World War II would begin only 21 years after World War I. Its sad to say, but World War II was truly just a continuation of World War I. May the fallen Rest in Peace.

you know what makes this game complete? the campaign feels like it's being told, like it's stuff that actually happened with the voiceovers. i think the saddest war story of them all was the italian one. just think about it. you carry out an assault in full body armor to cover your brothers battalion, but it all goes to shit. you fight your way through countless germans in war torn fields, with men cowering in fear, all while being told how the character you play as felt, describing the thoughts that must've gone through the heads of those italians. then you find your brother at long last, dead. it's actually touching in a weird way. plus the music fits perfectly. because the campaign is split into these 6 war stories, there's just stories to be heard, people to lose, battles to be won, and they absolutely nailed it. Nothing is written is lame as fuck though.

Really reminds you of the atmosphere of The Great War. Young men left their lives at home. Away from their fathers, mothers, and siblings. Some young men made it back, some didnt, some made it back but suffered from severe trauma called shell shock. These men were young boys when they entered the war and they soon became warriors. Proud to say my great great grandfather was a member of the us army, 3rd infantry division in ww1. Always remember that this game is not about getting quad feeds and getting points it is showing the horrors and tragedy of war, and that it is a terrible thing. The pointless war, ‘The war to end all wars’ ended nothing it ended the lives of young men.

Every time I hear this in the main menu it makes me sad and sometimes I even cry. My great grandfather fought in the Austro-Hungarian army on the Eastern front in Galicia-Volhynia and barely made it out alive. They were running out of ammo and supplies and the Russians just kept coming. They would kill one enemy soldier and then another one would pop up behind him, take the dead guy's gun, and continue charging the trenches. Before they knew it, they were fighting hand to hand and one of the Russians grabbed my grandfather by the backpack but luckily the Austro-Hungarian army had these really neat leather backpacks that were super strong so my great grandfather was able to take the backpack off of his back, throwing the Russian to the ground. I can't imagine what was going through his head. One day you're at home and everything's normal, and the next day they tell you that you've been conscripted and that you're being sent to the front lines. And he was only 20 years old.

That's a great experience Strahinja! This song also brings me tears. I have one family member that served in the Great War, but unfortunately his story is lost to history. I am working hard to try to make the public remember this war, because it in many ways worse than World War Two. Think of the change. in 1914, you have brightly colored uniforms, soft hats and no airplanes, fast forward to 1918, you have drab clothing, a steel pot, Airplanes are all around, and a scary Iron monster has just made it's appearance on the battlefield (the tank to all of you who can't figure it out). Another point why Battlefield One is one of the best games ever. I have read about the great war pretty much my entire life, and it never clicked that it was so gruesome until I played the first mission and the Italian mission, and played the epilogue. Well put together game.

The first time I played the campaign I heard the music, I heard the speeches, I saw the scenes, I saw the people, I saw the bodies, I saw the pride and I closed my eyes and imagined how it was like fighting for the things you love but knowing you likely won't survive in a massive war. It won't relate in the real war but imagining how each soldier was willing to charge at the enemies, screaming to show they weren't afraid as they ran through mud, soared through skies, plowed through debris and fight in piles of bodies. It really makes a lot of us gamers think that without human ambition we wouldn't be able to see head on into the future of games. So I thank the heavens that I was able to live a life that didn't allow me to feel the pain of the fallen warriors. I know that I need to love my life how it is and it isn't as bad as I think it is. At this point I'm just blabbering a bunch of nonsense but.... I don't care at all. I'm *Happy*

When you get control of the pigeon you look down and see the horrific war gong under you, and this magnificent theme plays and it shows how this pigeon doesn’t care about the war that is going on, it cares about completing it’s journey. And this theme plays. This was one of the coolest moments in gaming history for me.

In the movie War Horse, the grandfather of the young French girl talks about carrier pigeons. And how they only know one thing and that is to fly home, ignoring everything around them and to just go home. He asks if it is bravery that they are able to do that without ever looking at the pain and destruction around them, specifically below them. I think that’s the kind of thing this scene was trying to portray.
