While other songs romanticize the war. This one depicts the solemn terror felt by the soldiers walking to their graves. Millions of young men dead by their governments quarrels and petty ambitions of conquest and supremacy. These poor souls did not deserve death, farmer boys and working men. May they rest in peace and never be forgotten.

But the sorrow reality is that they will all be forgotten eventually. The harder we try to remember something, the easier it gets lost. Just like trying to remember the face or voice of the dearly departed... memories will soon fade. Just think of how many wars the world has seen. Wars that predated WW1. The people that died, did they think their sacrifices would be remembered for years, centuries to come? There will come a time where everything that meets our eye will be forgotten. This is depressing.

@@jadduck The passage of time does erode details and connections. Memories may fade, but the collective memory and the lessons learned from history often endure. The soldiers who fought in wars may not be remembered individually by future generations, but their collective sacrifices and the impact of those conflicts on society are often preserved in historical records, literature, and commemoration. These records serve as reminders for us to learn about and reflect upon the past. We need to remember the values and principles that these soldiers fought for, such as freedom, justice, and peace, so that we can continue to inspire and guide future generations. Their sacrifices have persisted and shaped the course of history and our world today. We must focus on the importance of collective memory and the lessons we can draw from the past. We must appreciate the sacrifices made by those who came before us and strive to build a better future.

My grandfather was drafted into the 80th Infantry during the Battle of the Bulge. He was a rifleman and a fireteam leader. My grandfather was the kindest person I had ever met. He loved animals and never said a bad word about anyone. This song makes me think of him. A good, kind, and empathetic person thrust into combat underequiped in a harsh winter hellscape to witness the worst mankind has to offer. Being forced to kill when morally objected to. Not knowing if he would see the next hour. Truly, one would have to have some kind of faith in something to get through that. My grandfather lost his legs below the knees to frostbite on Jan 10th, 1945. RIP Grandpa Pug

This game is truly amazing. I don't know why but I feel very emotional every time when playing thia game. I just automatically think all the horrors the soldiers went through. What fascinates me most is that I feel so sad thinking about WW1. I don't feel almost any feeling when thinking about WW2 even though my both grandfathers fought against Soviets and my great uncle died only as 21 years old fighting against Soviets as well. It is truly a mystery to me why I feel this way... Maybe because the waste of so many young men and tactics of the war were so awful. Also the artillery barrages and conditions of the trench life is so inhumane. What do you guys think? Do you feel emotional as well thinking about WW1?

This song gives me chills every time I hear it during the game. I got this game the first week it was out and it easily became one of my favorite games of all time. I’ll hear this during the opening of kaiserschlacht, or the opening of the Argonne forest offenseive, but the one I found most intriguing yet terrifying, was hearing this during the the opening scene of the Rupture map of beyond the Marne operation. Seeing that it is an abandoned battlefield leftover from 1914 now overgrown with moss, rusted tanks, old trenches, and poppy fields as far as the eye can see, this music truly made me feel like I was living in it (as dumb as that may seem) and really showed how haunting it might have been to fight on a battlefield from 4 years previous. Where as other songs romanticize the war, this one is so calming. Love this game haha

One of the few fps games that genuinely had me thinking about the war it was depicting. It's not entirely accurate but bf1 captured a sense of horror and comradery at the same time. The music was the glue of these themes and game feels. The music tied it all together into a game of old in the modern at the same time, it felt in ways like those old fps world war games that shipped with a solid, dumb fun campaign, a pseudo history lesson and multiplayer. Bf1 can sit comfortably along side, call of duty 2, the og medal of honors, and all the other old but gold fps games. Every now and then dice will finally release a finished well rounded game and when they do it always slaps.

You know I hate the sound of this cuz it meant defeat but I would sometimes time it right when you get killed the song plays as you die... But this is a sad song
