Apparently the maps aren't the standpoint of this game yet map after map it looks visually impressive and feels so realistic because of the level design. Doesn't anybody feel this way? I was in awe just running around because it felt so immersive, the attention to detail and the architecture of the buildings and the broken down houses, the mountains and the hills and so on.

Better than BF4, I didn't find many of those maps interesting. That said, the first world war was fought in open areas like the Somme and Gallipoli, so some of the maps feel similar to play. Visually they all look great though.

"Naturally, multiplayer is what we're all here for!" Hang on IGN!! This isn't the case for all of us, especially for this old school gamer. Though I was somewhat relieved with DICE's new take on its single player campaign, more than anything, I wish that they had expanded it into something with a much broader scale, especially given that I really, really enjoyed the storytelling and implementation of the new weapons and vehicles. Because I'm far more interested in campaign driven gaming, namely getting lost in a world that doesn't involve being bombarded by colourfully worded Tweens. Yes, I do love a good fps multiplayer battle and all that it entails. What truly concerns me is that it appears as though the days of fps campaigns are becoming a thing of the past given that I can't name a single fps title that's primarily campaign driven in nature. Sad.. I knew this prior to purchasing Battlefield 1 and its lack of a huge campaign certainly isn't a surprise, given that the Battlefield empire is renown for its stellar multiplayer action. That being said, I'm thoroughly pleased and impressed with this latest production and can say without a doubt that it's the best fps title of the year. I will however challenge fps developers to broaden their campaigns as there are still gamers that prefer this style of gaming bliss. It would also guarantee a true 10/10 ratings, which would in turn bolster profits. Something to think about.. Until then, be prepared to die-spawn-die-spawn.. even if you're a top dawg.

It's truely a fantastic game in every aspect, but what bothers me is that if this game becomes a reference point for pupils and teenagers regarding history, the absence of the French and Russian is disturbing. The australians have a war story, the italians too (who joined in 1915), the harlem hellfighters as well (who again, joined late), but not those who fought since the beginning and bled for this war. Out of 32000 towns and villages in France, only one hasn't lost somebody in the war. Many villages have been wiped out completely. The landscape of north-east France is forever marked by the bombs. It's a shame that what seem to be the best game to date regarding WW1 forgets about this, relegating it to DLC status.

There is only like 4 primary weapons for each class and then what we call an attachment in the old BF's they call a whole new weapon in this one. this is by far the best game i've ever played in my life. I thought it was going to be just any war game but DAMN I was wrong AF. the graphics on a mare 980M was insane. the game runs sooo smooth and looks absolutely stunning. I was literally on the edge of my chair from beginning to end. this is one of those games that I will finish twice.

Great Review! Funny enough your one con was that you don't like the maps, yet I find them to be some of the most unique and refreshing maps I've played in awhile. It's probably just the launch hype, and the fact that its finally set in the past, but these maps just feel so much more organic. Tired of maps being perfectly symmetrical. The one map in the Italy mountains (I'm a google search away from the name, but i'm to lazy to look it up) has only some of the coolest gun fights I've seen in awhile, especially in operations mode.

As someone who played the beta, I liked what I saw, the strong maps and weapons and a variety of ww1 vehicles made the beta a joy to play. I plan on getting battlefield 1 as an addition to my ps4 game collection, and a worthy one at that. While not as strong as the likes of overwatch, the vehicles, single player campaign and weapons make it much better. I look forward to playing this game! Thank you for an honest review ign. Lets hope your cod IW review is the same.

WWI & WWII are by far the best era for any of these types of shooters. It's nice to have that gritty sense of authenticity and not a more 'modern' feel that your M4/AK is completely invincible. The moment I heard the BF1942 opening theme music when I first loaded up, I knew they were on to something good!

So, the main criticism against Battlefield 1, is that it's not historically accurate and that it lacks weapons. The way DICE can address this is by: 1) Adding a mode called trench warfare, for all the people who are more into the historical aspect of it. 64 vs 64, or 32 vs 32, no respawns, only bolt-action and semi-automatic rifles. Or let people rent their own servers so they could do it themselves. A perfect map for this would be Saint Quentin Scar. This would be more accurate to what WWI was like, and thus satisfying the critics. 2) If the added all the countries in a DLC, or multiple dlc's that were left out, such as: France, Russia, Italy, Austria-Hungary and Bulgaria. By adding these countries, they could add the weapons that they also used, thus adding more weapons to unlock, and adding a more historically accurate WWI game. This would take a while, and probably multiple DLC's, but it would definitely make the game a better experience for EVERYONE!

Carmelo Anthony 9. one free one coming soonish. the maps are: SINAI DESERT (the beta map) EMPIRES EDGE (castle like thing with small towns) MONTE GRAPPA (British or scotish Valley with heavy turrets and underground control points) FAO FORTRESS (map with a castle on an elevated Hill on the edge of the sea) BALLROOM BLITZ ( large castle/ballroom with long corridors and a wide open Plaza in the middle) ST. QUETINS SCAR (town map with an elevated church control point, and big sniping towers) SUEZ (small desert map, only 3 control points but very fast and fun ) ARGONNE FOREST (thick dense jungle with bunkers, train wrecks, and trenches. and finally AMINES ( the city centre with long alleyways, good choke points, lots of buildings and destruction. hope this helped. have fun!

The first Battlefield game I've played where I love all the maps. I have to adopt a different play style for each or I get slaughtered. Fantastic variety but have to say Amiens is my standout favourite of the lot.

When you play operations, st Quentin scar and ballroom blitz and maybe even monte grappa has section you take over by utilizing the trenches, it's really fun. Gas grenades and mortars, yes there are snipers, and the bomb pockets are back from BFBC2! Hope y'all got the game.

Elias Green A couple parts of 2 maps do have trenches but the whole game focuses on map designs without trenches so that it plays like Battlefield 4 & 3's style. Its not like Battlefront's Hoth's trench battles.

Tbh all of them are solo warrior, over the top kind of story which is boring to me at least, They should have gone with actual campaign where you play with 2 or 3 guys and you experience real trench warfare since there is non in the MP. Just imagine charging over no mans land with 200+ of your fellow soldiers onto enemy trenc while getting mowed down by mg's. Now THAT would be a good campaign not this crazy cod-wannabe bs.

This year was great for FPS campaigns. Battlefield 1, Titanfall 2, and yes even Infinite Warfare had great single player offerings! While developers havent gotten past the idea of making them more than 5 hours long, they at least are moving in the right direction by putting in quality effort. Maybe one day we will see Battlefield, Titanfall, COD and new FPS IP's give us both a lengthy and quality filled campaign but until then I will take quality over quantity any day.

The one thing that sticks out that could have improved the campaign would have been the inclusion on war stories told by soldiers of the Central Powers, this would have provided a riveting contrast to the accounts of Entente soldiers, and even though there was one point in the Harlem Hellfighters story, the campaign could have added more humanizing elements of the Central Powers as well. Instead however of course, EA didn't want to cross that bridge and stuck with the "safe option" and made the other side of the war largely untold in the campaign.

Battlefield single player campaigns have the potential to be so much better than CoD campaigns, especially with the phenomenal audio design and destructibility. Battlefield 1 was definitely a step in the right direction. I hadn't actually felt invested in a Battlefield single player campaign since Bad Company 2. The only downside is the length of BF1's campaign but I really hope they incorporate some aspects of the 'stories' structure of BF1 in their next title.
