I’ve personally made a kill with the smoke MORTAR. So you might test that out. You might also test ricochets of smoke grenades off of both friendly and enemy players, off of unmanned stationaries, off of stationaries manned by both friendly and enemy players, and where the target is manning a stationary. There is the known bug where you can kill a friendly on a stationary HMG with a limpet mine. I can’t say for sure but when I made my smoke grenade kill it was shooting into the area where there was an HMG stationary.

You should try shooting a dynamite in the air and seeing if a fire or gas grenade can stick to a flying plane

That horse damage thing is wild. Maybe the bullet, when moving fast or far away from the shooter, gets registered into the head and the body of the horse due to engine weirdness

My guess would also be that the horse has multiple hurtboxes that can be hit sometimes for whatever reason. This also seems to be quite inconsistent and weapon dependant. Villar Perosa Sentry for example seems to shred the horse in a blink when going directly at them.

The clip I have seen of a smoke grenade kill was a random throw on a further range (~30° upwards), so maybe it needs more distance thrown to deal damage. Also it could only deal damage after bouncing off something?

maybe throw the smoke grenade directly at explosives?

This game makes sense to me most of the time, but things like this horse damage and the smoke grenades are so confusing. I’ve been trying to find out forever how the smoke kill works. All the videos of people getting the kills are terrible and don’t show the smoke grenade hitting the enemy on screen. And the horse can get hit twice? In the head?

Aaah yes, I remember the stories my great-grandfather used to tell me, about how they tested all these things. Shooting horses to check how much they could endure, dropping torpedoes on allies and seeing the results and finally tossing some grenades to some wounded frenchies to check if they'd die. P.S: does anyone know how can we test all this stuff on an empty server? Thanks!

It looks like its not possible to get a kill with smoke grenade, but more tests can be carried out.

Yes it is possible, there are videos of it, but how exactly I don't know. I just tested basic stuff, but there is no clear answer as to how in game it happens.
