A tank crew fight off against German tanks and infantry, taking a village, and at one point fights off endless infantry and tanks near the end for what feels like hours, before the tank is blown up. Ya, there's minor differences, but it feels so similar...

Truth is we don’t know and will never know. But it’s implied he was likely to live up until he got there. He had enough strength but time was running out, that’s why they needed to get there quick. He may not have survived in general. But he sacrificed himself before his injury could kill him.

I've always liked this part of the campaign, but I always thought it was really odd how they have you as one tank going after the enemy by yourself, presumably far behind their lines. Especially when in that epilogue, it states that over 300 tanks were involved in the battle at Cambrai, yet the only friendly ones we see are a few at the beginning

Well, how many of those tanks even got as far as Bess did (assuming Bess was a real tank)? Many of the tanks committed to any single battle where tanks were present simply broke down, some within minutes of the first whistles being blown (I wish I was making that up). Tanks of that era were exceptionally unreliable, and also got bogged down easily. And given that radio communications between tanks wasn't a thing, it's entirely possible for two tanks of the same tank platoon (by modern standards) to end up in two completely different locations, even assuming both tanks were working. So it's not that surprising. That said, we also have to remember that Bess is as much of a character in this story as the crew is, so the devs kinda have to have her out on her own.

Yes, Bess was a real tank commanded by 8 soldiers. The characters aren’t the real people though. They were stranded for 3 days, I think because the tank broke down, and only 3 of the 8 men survived. So this part of the game is based off a real event and a real tank, but of course not 100% accurate.
