the problem with the Battlefield franchise is that since BF4 they tried so hard to get in that "cod crowd" that the whole game gradually started to become a counter strike with op weapons and vehicles, and lost its identity, they tried so hard to pander to the famous noob's complain of " i walked 2 min to the front line and died instantly and had to do it again" that all the strategy, the depth are all lost, now you're literally playing with luck as people are generaeted literally from everywhere, just like a COD match, Its gone from a strategic, team work based game to a twitch action arcade shooter

This is absurdly true, the open spawns like on iwo jima here were great, i remember with my friends at monte casino and soe asburd bots mod that basically spawned all the tickets at once + players. In these games you get 1 min to get to the front line, throw yourself into a boat, if there is a commander then great cuz it changes everythig not only does the skill cieling become absurdly high but its also extremely wide as the set of skills needed to be great arent solo skills, but rather team skills as well. Hell look at how many BFV vids are already centered around killstreaks, much like BF1 and BF4, and COD. Hell even in BFBC2 you had to get ot the front line, and getting there was half the strategy and allowed for a bunch of creative strats that changed everything. RO2 is just as in depth. this is imply, as you said, the game design of cod and BF had a mutated fucked up baby where nothign works and nothing is enjoyable but for those 5 mins. Imagine more mechanics, an actual medic systme, the graphics of BFV but its BF1942 game design. It would be GOTY within the first week.

You got one thing wrong. It's been happening not since BF4, but all the way since BC2. The map sizes and the pacing, it's all run n gun, very little teamwork and strategy, it all checks out. The "CoDizing" of Battlefield has been happening for alot longer. Which is why I consider Battlefield 2 to be the peak of the franchise.

the big problem with BF1942 was massive advantage planes had over everything and there almost unlimited bombing and fire power. You would just have people bombing the hell out of spawn points and you couldn't do shit to stop them. It sucked!

Personally, I think the newer weapons are what's really terrible compared to 1942. You need the sights to hit almost anything. I've hit people while running in 1942....But that's actually me seeking a more "arcade style" feature, and otherwise I know that, to some extent, the newer games are much more flexible when a server is being set up, and a lot of people just operate servers with settings that promote a specific style of play. You have some increased individual power and some people will run servers where that individual power is "arcade-level," but desert combat can have just the right problem with the right settings, even original 1942. I personally find the big regret (besides no mods) to be the loss of "rear" roles and some specialized vehicles, but there are still some classes that have features useful for technical support, but which are at a disadvantage elsewhere. And believe me, people who played the simulators that existed before 1942 bridged the gap between "simulator" and "arcade game" think it's a truly bizarre concoction and a curse on the world - 1942 actually combined the two sides in a new way. The loss of specialized vehicles began by bf2, really, where it is very evident and disappointing. (BFV actually has working surface to air missiles, but the jets and missiles are slow that it's a bit comical to watch them.) (I'll also say, in practice, 1942 and dc and similar mods don't see much teamwork or strategy - the biggest influences on the amount of planning I see have to to with the forms of the maps, which are more widely accessible and complex and so give you more options than in something like call of duty, but this exists in the newer games, as well.)

Yes, it has 2-3 times more content than BF5 has on release, it plays more tactically instead of run&gun, die, repeat that BF5 has. Battlefield 1942 actually had some depth to it's gameplay in which a bit of thinking and patience paid off aswell as quick reactions and reflexes. Battlefield 5 is shallow as fuck compared to this lol.

I way outskilled the bastard in many 1v1 occasions, I can tell you he's not a real special player skillwise, but he can see you trough walls and I've even busted him aimbotting but i don't usually record my gameplay, he's a very suttle cheater that just hasn't been caught yet.

Why do you think it's not played? You see active players in this video. If you have the game just download gamespy patch for it and join the active servers. Currently 2 full "Simple" and "aX". Sometimes there are so many players that the player limit is 72 on Simple.
