I bought it one year after release for about 12 € and for that money it was a good experience but it never hooked me like BF3 or BF4. BF3 was the peak so far BF1 and BFV also where nice games but not groundbreaking like BF3. So i played a lot of Plunder Mode in CoD Warzone instead, right now i have no online multiplayer shooter i play on a regular basis, because i have more important things to do but also because there is no game like Warzone Plunder Mode or BF3 available right now. Portal could have been THE THING - Everyone just makes HIS loved BF-Game, some make a Server with BF3, some make a BF2 Server, some make themselves a BF1942 Server and some just make crazy Servers with Vehicles from 2142 but Weapons from 1942 and Grappling Hook from 2042 but Skins from BF Vietnam. Man, that would have been THE Playground for Battlefield Fans and could run for ever, it could generate a ton of money for EA but it was just a missed chance for everyone.

There really are no excuses for what they've put out. Even if they didn't have the time or experience themselves to test the game, they could have got help from the community to do so. Their priorities seem to be in the wrong places (setting up a god tier microtransaction scheme) and it shows. Great vid as always and it's sad to see you go. That BF3 end of game music really was the perfect choice for this video and even hearing that gives me a sense of how far this franchise has fallen. For now, enjoy the break as I don't know anyone more deserving. I remember binge watching your content to learn BF4 and if you ever decide to upload again, I'll watch regardless of the context. Been following most of battlefield KZbinrs for a long time, and it was kinda clear: Art was undisputedly the best Battlefield KZbinr out there. He is honest, elegant and stright forward. Provides on spot constructive criticism that no other one does in a way that's actually productive. Pretty much whenever I had a design issue with the game I could only find Art talking about it. There's a handful of content creators that I watch and pay attention to their opinions on. Not one has said they truly love it. Most don't even seem to enjoy it. Others, that I won't name due to professionalism on Arts channel have pointed out issues that were going to happen since the game was first announced, that guess what, are plauging the game daily. 128 players just shouldn't have been attempted. Smoke has hit reg on it? No scoreboard? Two main game modes? No single player? We could go on for hours, but guess what, the premium skins work correctly. Sad to see the channel go, it really is.

When I look at Battlefield 2042 gameplay, I just go "Oh wait this is Battlefield game..." I forget all the time even Battlefield 5 had that feel even I don't like it. Yes its a bit messy at the moment but i was so fed up with the old weapons in BF1 and BF5 that i can look beyond its early immaturity just to get my hands on modern weapons. When the trailer released, I always said they have to pull through with this game after the disaster of bfv, or it could be the end of the franchise. Watching those trailers I had so much faith in dice, I truly believed they brought it back. But this game is just a disappointment. Is it fun? It can be, but it doesn't outweigh the problems and missing features. Portal is good, and I'm excited to see what kind of creative genius comes out of that. But overall, it's a flop in my book.

Multiple features that were confirmed to be in game that either weren't there, or took 6+ months to be added to the game. Vehicle balancing. I could go on. The game turned out to be pretty decent towards the end, but during its life cycle the game was God awful.

Personally, I have more fun in BFV conquest than I have in any battlefield game since BF3, probably because the weapons feel weirdly unique and the attrition mechanic. I could go out on my own, hide thanks to the visibility, my squad could spawn on me, we could take an objective, fortify it, etc. I find the hecticness incredible, because if you put your nose in the dirt and actually take cover and work your way through the enemy (especially on rush) it really feels like you're making a difference. I find comparing that to CoD, where it's all just random chance on lanes, really silly. Were the maps perfect for conquest? Not exactly, but I'm not really sure how they were particularly worse than BF4's. I find 2042 a step backwards from BFV in virtually every regard. Worse movement, cosmetics, no classes, no fortification (I really loved that), and perhaps an unpopular opinion: bayonets on rifles should be a thing in the next modern battlefield. I hate to see them go.

The movement, the razor-sharp graphics and the beautiful colors you have e.g. on Marita. The gunplay is really weird but one could get used to it. If I now look at BF 2042, the poor and watered-down graphics are actually a big let-down for me. They look like a Disney and CoD design mix, which has nothing to do with the ever reliably top-notch graphics that each part has always had in its own way. Not to mention horrible performance, still hundreds of bugs, and lately the worst of all issues: The lack of the "Battlefield Feeling". I haven't returned to BFV since the '42 launch, simply because I wanna play what I paid for, but I might soon do so...

@@GuyFromJupiter that’s why I brought them up. It’s a stark difference between the attitudes of the studio’s and publishers. 343 worked closely with the community. Halo creators were part of a program that helped shape infinite into what the fans wanted. Dice and EA seem to not consult the players at all, and the ‘game changers’ like jackfrags & Westie seem to not hold any sway at all. Comes across like they are shown what EA want and they have to tow the line if they want access. Honestly 343 has been so refreshing. There is the xp issue, but honestly, that’s a side issue considering.

I feel like this is a problem that has been plaguing the entire software industry in recent years. I work as a software engineer in a different industry but I can totally relate to what you said about the devs trying their best and hardest but they have essentially been given a near impossible task. Often, it's hard to explain to people at the top why things take time. Why building good, quality software takes a good amount of effort and time. Sadly the goals are very quantitative in nature and not qualitative. Make sure we have all these features by this date, testing and quality assurance are the last concern of folks at the top. Their mindset is basically "do we have those features? is it working? ok good release it and we can just patch up any issues that come about". Always in a rush to meet deadlines, to compete with other companies in the same space. I've been seeing this pattern a lot and sadly the gaming industry is where it is most noticeable because the game literally becomes unplayable when the quality is so bad. Business oriented people usually don't understand the importance of software quality because it is not something tangible. You can usually show a business man a vase you made and they can touch and feel it's good quality, or something like a gold necklace. But when it comes to software, as long as they see a demo of you spawning , walking around with a gun and 2 players able to kill each other that's all they need for their stamp of approval. I feel like as software engineers we are not properly represented in the industry, We are pushed back from people at the top a lot and usually treated like grunts in a factory that have to put in overtime and write bad code and make bad software just so we can meet the demand of the people at the top. Usually, people at the top don't like it when you come back telling them that to make sure something is working properly and is tested properly you need more time. They usually have a planned schedule expecting features that need 6 months of development to be done in 6 weeks and if you dare deviate from this schedule the whole release is postponed because of you and they act as if you are the reason the company will lose money. I am glad we are all sending a message that the game is unfinished and needed more time, so the people at EA can understand that you need to give these things time and rushing for profit is a no no

EA? They're wasting so many time/effort for something that customer never asked about. Look at BFV, they're wasting time to complete "Battle Royale", for what? BF Players are not a fan of BR, now we got less map, and unpopulated BR server + Our ROM wasted just for installing BF-BR. In my opinion, as a gamer customer, is not about the whole gaming industries. It's just EA problem. I get excited with the other products from Rockstar, Dota, Supercell (Mobile), Capcom.. even the series are sometimes become fail, but they're having goal/character. Nicely put. I am not a software engineer but I see this exact problem happen in a lot of recent products (be it technical or not). Alot of business man that took the academic route have no sense of longterm gains and how much positive "word-of-mouth" matters. All they want is quick profit and they don't even know, how much profit they are missing out on in the long run. In my opinion either software engineers should take those high positions themselves, or they should only allow people that have successfully built their own business to be in those positions. Because I am 100% certain that those people wouldn`t have any success, if they wouldn`t work in such a large company and having an established brand like the Battlefield franchise on their side. I knew as soon as the Beta released that this would be a mess. It just makes 0 sense from a marketing perspective. Why would you ever put out such a bad mess as a Beta, even if it was a "4 months old version"? If you want to do a perfect launch, the 100% finished game should be the Beta and when it releases you just add some cool cosmetics, more maps and new weapons. Then you gift every player a bunch of nice things (ingame) as a kind of "beta or launch reward" and you are set. The (open) Beta must be so polished and awesome that basically everyone starts to order the game. Don`t get how those "business man" don`t ever get it.

It’s inexcusable that the ones at the top presiding over what is explicitly a software development undertaking not fundamentally understand the constraints of delivering a quality product and the time investment necessary or the inevitable setbacks to be planned for. Also, the consumers need to start praising any announcement of a delay of a major title to incentivize studios to not concern themselves with missing a deadline if they’ve identified game-breaking issues that need to be worked out prior to the release. Otherwise this practice of selling games at full price with the intention to only fully complete it once it’s caught on or once their users have identified the issues for them will only become more blatant.

I remember in another video from maybe last year you mentioned how battlefield just wasn’t even enjoyable anymore. I thought Vanguard would’ve tanked this year (I know it sold less than any other COD for the last 14 years) but it seems to be doing way better than 2042 and I think DICE is pretty well finished after this garbage game came out. So sad. We didn’t want COD, we didn’t want Fortnite, we wanted BF4 ported into the future with new maps, weapons, and vehicles while still maintaining the classic BF feel. What a disappointment this game is. Wish I would’ve purchased Vanguard instead, even though WW2 isn’t my favorite era.

Even as bad as BF4 was at launch, it still had many of the fundamental pieces that make it feel like a fun Battlefield game. Sure, it was plagued with technical issues like crazy. All of that aside and dealt with, there was still an incredible amount of fun to be had with the base game. Like you said in the video, and like Silk and others have commented and mentioned already, EA/DCE has priorities elsewhere than to actually make a fun game for the community to enjoy. What a shame Edit: Also ART, even if no one really reads this, I must thank you for the honesty you've consistently delivered on this channel since I've followed you. I had some old clips from the launch of bf4 and my god it was a technical masterpiece by comparison. Sure the 10hz bf3 servers were terrible, and the bugs numerous, but the core gameplay was still solid and fun. Ive not had fun yet in 2042 nearing rank 60. Even portal is just a reskin of 2042, YOU WE'RE THE CHOSEN ONE PORTAL!! Dice is treating battlefield like new age teachers treat sports. No winners or lossers, just participants

I had the same stance as you but recently purchased it on sale for £5. It feels okay at this point but it's just bland after the novelty of being on a new game wears off. You can really feel the lack of content in terms of the map variety and content outside of gun and operator skins. You can't even change squads in this game for goodness sakes. It's clear they want a new audience for Battlefield so that they can turn it into CoD 2.0 with gradually more tone deaf skins that have no place in Battlefield. Each game will be worse and worse in terms of its mtx aggressiveness.

Big agree here. 2042 is ugly, barren, and soulless. I kept thinking to myself, why does BF1 look better than this? 128 players was such a huge mistake. Especially seeing the former DICE employee who said that they had tested 128 and even 256 I think back in BF4 days? Anyways, he said that it didn't work and wasn't fun. That's exactly how I feel here. 128 required a massive downgrade of map detail, it's far too chaotic. I don't like running into 15 people on the other side of the hill. I can outplay at a certain number of enemies, but at a certain point it's too many that it doesn't matter how good I am, I'll die to brute force. I like to fly helo's and so many people are rocking AA's meaning I either go aggro an deal with them, or play passive and run every time my flare is on C/D. I digress as I could rant on this for some time. If I wanted to play COD, I'd play COD, not BF. 2042 is not a Battlefield game, it's a directionless algorithmic designed game influenced by corporate focus groups and it shows.

Yup they need to look back to bf1942 and add all the goodies , total destruction, operational ships, aircraft carrier vs carrier with battleship escorts, submarines, Large bombers and transports, stop the minimap and 3d spotting, sniper glint, weapons damage simular to hell let loose. Towable guns, building defenses, base and squad leader spawning only. Don't need this twitch reflexes sliding around crap. Don't need grandma reviving me or flying African women dropping c5 on my tank, hacking vehicles, antitank grenades with wings, its all bs. End game cut screens are garbage, and so irritating I take my headphones off after every match.. Whoever made this game sucks worse than my spelling. I got my monies worth at 160 hr rank 85, just disappointed

BF1 has so much weight to every map and the sound design is perfect. The attention to detail is awesome with the mud, weather and what you can do. The shooting is smooth and fun rather than odd like this one is. I wasn't half bad in BF1.. not great either, but this new one I feel I'm fighting just to keep the sights on someone and the recoil is off or something

Both BF1 and BF5 had the gameplay, map, and especially sound design and visuals down super well and incredibly satisfying.. Everything in 2042 is a step backwards.

Honestly I hated BF1. The WW1 setting was beyond gimmicky, atrocious RNG bullet deviation, bayonet cheese, cheap kills from sentry kits and behemoths, terrible map design that ended up being a clusterfuck with no tactical flanking options and an unintuitive gun customisation menu with the variants

Just found a post about you on the r/Battlefield sub saying about how we all miss you. If you ever come back, you don't have to do 2042. BF4, Hardline, BF1... they're all still alive and kicking. Plenty of great games in the franchise that still deserve the love

finally someone remembers what battlefield was, thank you so much for saying it. I was fed up with other content creators saying 'it is fun" "i am having fun" "la la di da FU", the game is depressing and stupid. i am all for battlefield, i want this to be successful, but this isn't IT. Had to reinstall BF1 to cleanse out my depressed state. With all the cool trailer, stupid story, and stupid pre match cinematics, and stupid specialist this game was meant to sell not to play, I couldn't get refund on time, feeling cheated.

Been looking forward to this game for years. Since bf5 was released. I had extremely high hopes. And once I played, I was very, very, dissatisfied. And I am by no means an elite or picky player. I just live and die by battlefield. Looks like this franchise is done. I have more fun playing against the bots than I do against other ppl. Put all the lagging and crashing aside, I think walking around everywhere is annoying. And once you do get there, bam your dead. My list can go on and on. But this video really summed it up. I’m already looking to go play other games. The most important thing I will say, battlefield is battlefield, call of duty is call of duty. They shall not be mixed. There are different fan bases for a reasons, we have different taste. And these creators drank the kool aid!

people are saying that the game is better now, i have been playing since launch and its basically the same game but isnt completely unplayable, fundamentally its still a bad battlefield game and they are going on a year with only 2 maps a handful of weapons and 2 specialists, ui still sucks and is frustrating, there are still petty stupid bugs that they are refusing to fix, its still a lifeless large scale tdm that you can choose where you spawn because of the choices they made early in development this game will NEVER recover, comparing it to bf4's launch is dumb, bf4 had the features, mechanics, and content for a battlefield game, while 2042 does not
