In old battlefields there were no vehicle customizations, no weapon customizations, but through time those things were slowly added to the game. Attachments, skins, vehicle skins, vehicle gadgets. The only logical way forward when creating a new experience was to offer more customization to the soldiers and soldier gadgets themselves. Not sure how a game can be broken when people's only complaint is "that soldier doesn't look as gritty and battle hardened wahhh". And I doubt the wall hack gadget will be as big and scary as everyone thinks it will be. This isn't COD or Rainbow. These are large scale open maps where other specialists might have more utility. Portal looks really exciting and everything we hoped for, but to say the base game is broken is just silly. People don't want another BF3/4 game because they are already perfect. WW1 and WW2 are out of the picture as well. We get innovation and a new way to play and everyone loses their minds it's silly. Different game. Different setting. Different feel. I remember when masses of people complained about BF4 and said "it's just a reskinned BF4" and that game became a classic. Stop being such a pessimist.

This is actually nice story. It explains how 2142 world become so different. If you notice, there's russian-speaking europeans fighting on the PAC side (only one skin is Asian), they're dominating population in Pan-Asian Coalition, means Asians become refugees, and/or many Europeans was integrated by Russia somewhere between 2042 and 2142. EU side is also changed, they're mostly African descent (only engineer is white) in 2142, means Europe in future become very unpopulated and core of EU is now Africa, or/and flooded by South African nations, who become majority in Europe. It also explains, why US is not playing any major role in 2142, United States became a failed state, and probably PAC and EU fighting over America.

It's actually quite a possible scenario, climate change could lead to parts of the planet freezing over and other parts too hot to be livable. So the trope of "global warming" is wrong, it's always been a change in the stability of the climate due to increase in c02. The warming part being the average temp getting warmer.
