I still don't understand why BF2042 has such odd animations, older BF games also had them be pretty odd, but these just seem slightly above the bare minimum, but hey, at least they're functionally good and accurate, which many games would barely do.

I personally like the animations, but the reason they look off to many is because they seem to be third person animations used as first person ones. I don't think the game has any viewmodel animations, they're just using the third person ones, which look fine in third person and then kinda floaty in first person :D

It's usually referred TO as "true first person" meaning instead of having some floating arms with animations (traditional first person/viewmodel animations) true first person means what you see someone doing in third person is the same thing they see when they do something in first person. So I don't really have an answer but there are quite a few games that do this and so its not some weird thing that BF2042 did in case you were thinking that :D@@zedus4042

A lot of the portal reload animations legit make me wince in pain by how terribly stiff and awkward they are, the worst culprit being the M26 MASS shotgun. It is legitimately so terrible it’s either unfinished or it was the first draft and that’s all they could do. Its sad cuz the base game reloads are okay and some of the new ones are nice but my goodness the amount of errors everywhere with the portal guns to how stiff and amateur the reloads are are just insulting, especially compared to BF4, BF1 & BFV. It legitimately feels like they gave the task of animating the guns in BF Portal to a beginner team that have never used Blender. It’s especially insulting for a full price triple A game when smaller studios/indie devs like Insurgency Sandstorm, Escape from Tarkov, Ready or Not, SCP 5K, etc. can create reload animations 1000x better than this mess.

Those portal animations are 100% unfinished. You can tell by the Ak-74u anim, very choppy, very stiff, and very awkward. That’s always how they start.

I have a feeling it was a really poor "artistic" decision due to the fact that the new devs probably never really played older Battlefield titles... so in their minds the choppy and stiff animations mimic an "older" game, despite the older animations from bf3>bfV being miles better than every single animation here.

Just seeing the spare mag reloads really makes me love those two guns' animations. Most video games always ignore this (like BO2 and the DSR-50 and various CZ-75s in games). Otherwise they really need to return to using first person models for their animations in their future games, if there's any at all. EDIT: Seems that they changed the animation of the AKS-74u for Season 7 to be like the AK-12.

The Laugo Alien reload animations are probably my favorite out of every other gun in the game. The animations are simple, smooth, and have a little style to them. Reminded me of Battlefield 4 for a moment.

weirdly enough, the m5a3 (or sig sauer mcx spear) has never been chambered in 5.56 before. at least not the variant shown. the variant shown has only ever been chambered in .308/7.62x51 and the .277 Fury as mentioned in game. The original mcx DID use rounds like 5.56 and .300 black so it seems the devs made a fucky wucky or there is a spear variant in 5.56 ive missed and i know less about guns than i think i do. or maybe they see into the future and have guessed that one day the gun will be in 5.56 edit: i dont think ive seen a modern ak12 with fdr color schemes except for on goatguns for $50 (which is a small non functioning replica)

It’s like they’re trying to mimic that fluid crispness that you find in cod reload animations. It’s overly dramatic with the snappiness and the motions are exaggerated. You usually get the over compensation from amateurs or someone’s first project. 😬

I'm having aneurysm by just 1 guy that says 2042 gunplay copies mw19, 2042 and mw19 gunplay feels very different seriously, the only thing in 2042 that resembles mw19 is the tacticool reload... Anyway, these animations arent even bad compared to other battlefield games, soem are even better than BF1 imo, the only reason they lock janky is because the player character keeps swaying then around for no reason (most notably on the lcmg, mp28, most sniper rifles and ak24) and the way the weapon is held, other than that 2042 has one of the best animations in the entire battlefield franchise and is just hindered by 2 things i mentioned above! Yes im only counting aow weapons since most portal weapons are afterthought and more of an extra content...

These... suck. The finished animations have too much secondary motion (extra bounce or wiggle), action speed is horribly inconsistent, the camera movement is poorly timed and jerky, there are attention to detail errors all over the place. It appears the WW2 Portal team almost tried, but there are stinkers even among their guns.

The most perplexing part about this is that the last game, Battlefield V, had good animations and models. So why did the Portal team go out of their way to make completely new animations for WW2 weapons when they could have ported over the animations from the last game and nobody would have batted an eye? Even if some people would call it lazy recycling, at least the animations would have been good.
