By the way, it's actually a 19+1 mag. I run it dry all the time. It's a very good secondary, but you can use it in tandem with a longer range weapon, in case you fear a close quarters engagement.

I found the G18 to be an amazing gun. My favorite though is the supressed version. Try it with the recon kit if your using a bolt action rifle. Its like having a pdw in your holster. You can clear out entire buildings with this thing.

I like to play as a sniper/engineer so the G53 is the best weapon for this. It has a 12 times scope as standard when you unlock it and if you put a grip on it and the heavy barrel depending on distance you are going to be firing this gun is the best for engi sniping.

Yes, it's made by the same manufacturer and uses the same bolt design. It is a bridge between the MP5 and G3 weapons. All of them use the same gas system. Heckler and Koch are wonderful gun manufacturers.

I'd love to see the 1911 reviewed, I find it an amazing pistol. Few rounds, just a little more powerful than the 9mm sidearms, but it's a freakin Colt .45!

G18 is definitely a good sidearm for me, first time I unlocked it I used it for my primary for a long session of gaming, I pulled matches like 50-35 and similar matches in tdm, so I really like it.

The reason would be the manufacturer, which is Heckler&Koch. In real live doesn't have a military model number like the M416 or G36, so usually it's called HK53

Its made by the same manufacturer, Heckler and Koch, however the HK53/G53 fire rifle rounds instead of pistol rounds like the MP5 SMG fires.

Pretty good, IMO. The silenced version is the one you want. Don't use it beyond CQC, though, because the recoil is mad on that thing at long range, though it's manageable at medium-close range.

@Diegobrinter it can be on any map of the game. i would choose kharg island and kill a sniper. there are usually a few on the mountain next to that radio tower

I never really got a hold on the G18. the full-auto thing would always and up throwing me off and the recoil I found to be difficult to manage. I feel like I agree more with FakeThriller here, DICE has made a nice set of balance with the sidearms. There's not any single pistol that's particularly terrible, but you can't simply abandon your primary in favor of them. As far as sidearms go, I think the G18 is the polar opposite of the .44 Magnum.

As far as sidearms go, I almost always use the G18. I sometimes use the scoped .44 though, I just find it to be a fun weapon.

not anymore. it used to be HK53 on consoles and G53 on pc as far as i know. at the moment it's the G53 on pc as well as on consoles. but it's the same weapon as before so no need to worry.

i really like the g18, i find it to be a REALLY reliable secondary... only because, if i am in a close quarters gun battle and my primary needs to reload.. it takes awhile to reload some primaries and a semi-auto pistol is no match to some guy with an f2000 or famas... but the g18 is a quick back-up in my opinion...

The weapon's actual name is HK53 but was changed ingame to G53 due to licensing issues.

@sniperkat313 i like using that set up as well, since HOLO helps me keep on target a CQ shooting, RDS reflex i use for assault, i can't bloody use the KOBRA RDS on nay gun without spraying like a mad man when it comes to long range

may i suggest making a review on the QBZ-95B carbine? i guarantee it will blow some ppl's minds on how awesome it is. i suggest using it with russian rds or russian holo laser sightand suppressor.. doesn't need a foregrip in my opinion

Do you guys ever use heavy barrels? In my experience they have been a lot more useful than laser sights and silencers, even more so with the new patch.

The HK53 is just a carbine variant of the HK33, which in itself is essentially a G3 chambered in 5.56x45mm. HK pretty much made a family of weapons after the success of the G3, including the HK33 and MP5. So no one's totally wrong or right. :/

It was inconsistent for a few weeks after BtK came out. They later patched it so the name is G53 on ALL platforms.

@MrGuybones To each their own, man. I honestly feel that the sidearms play their role perfectly in BF3. If you run dry in your primary, the pistols are perfect for finishing someone off. You shouldn't be able to go Rambo with a pistol.

Actually the g18 can be changed into a semi auto pistol like the g17. If you look in the corner of the ammo display you can see the dot that makes it semi

I gave it one more chance yesterday using this class. MP7 w/ Kobra Red Dot, Laser Sight, Supperser. Silenced G18. Op. Metro. I Tore up ass during Rush.

@SHuSTYBANG A fun part of dishing out the meds is that you get involved in teammates' final stands every now and again. eg me and some guy I was chasing ended up at the front of our defensive line, taking cover behind a shipping crate. We ended up running out of ammo, taking down about 5-7 Ruskies each. A couple of guys tried to resupply us, but they got gunned down before they got to us and I couldn't break cover. I love how you can just get yourself into random hollywood moments in BF3.

i think the g18 is extremely good, if you guys want a semi auto, you can still use it semi auto, putting ahead of the other semi autos with a higher mag size

Okay this is driving me insane, I'm wanting to switch to BF3 and after seeing the G18 I'm wanting to know how it stacks up to the G18 in CoD. MW2 version made me a fan (I know I know CoD sucks yaddy yaddy, no I wass not one to run around with akimbo, that's just stupid to me now) but MW3 (bleh :P) made me hated it, recoil on it was way to high and way too much of a nerf (why not just get rid of akimbo). So is the G18 like usable on here?

snoov please answer ,you saw that this gun doesnt have the front sight when putting on a RDS but on pc it has(i mean the iron sight on front it disapears on consoles but not on pc that annoys me but i still think its beast)

I love both these Weapons. I have the G18 on every class. Its such a great little handgun. At close range its incredibly deadly. More deadly then most assault or sub machine guns. I boast 1155 Kills with this Handgun. Only criticism is that it uses ammo like no tomorrow and it is only really effective and efficient in close ranges. Medium ranges if the target is not moving... The G53 is very good. Very Accurate and I feel like it also packs a hell of a punch. Fire rate is very decent too.

Probably because it's one of the later coop guns. Some people just don't do that for some reason.

The G53 is one of the best carbines when used with silencer, its not a personal preference, its statistics from Symthic.

@SHuSTYBANG Just because you don't like something doesn't mean that it's a faulty game. I play both MW3 and BF3, and they just have really different playing styles. That doesn't mean that one of them was made properly, and that the other is faulty. They're just different. But they are both, clearly, working products.

Yeah the HK53 with red dot (or holo sight) + foregrip and silencer is just beast!! As for the sidearm I haven't unlocked the G18 but in bc2 I was already not a fan of the 93R, which is only burst mode. The MP443 is good, in Bc2 I used to carry the 1911 (or 412rex) all the time, but the colt is weaker (IMO) in bf3 than in bc2 where you could "snipe" with it.

I certainly find the G18 way better than any LMG in the game. The only possible downsides for it is the lack of accuracy and low ammo capacity. But c'mon, it's a secondary weapon, and, in most cases, wins head-to-head fights against LMG dudes.

Just unlocked the weapon tonight, and the 1st match I played using it...I go 33-14, WITHOUT attachments. Might not ever use another gun for the Engineer class ever again. :D

I personally found the G53 to be the godliest carbine in the game. Although the G36C is a formidable contender, I just find myself able to pile up bodies more easily with the G53.

Hey guys, nice reviews so far, even if I do not really agree with all of your ratings^^ For me, the MP7 (Holo, ext. Mag, Laser) is my best gun, followed by the M98B (Laser, PK-A/ACOG/Ballistic, Bipod -> playstyle dependant) and the M39EMR (Holo, Foregrip, Laser). To this review: Even on the graphics of the gun, you can see 4 shooting modes (incl. secured mode) and however, I never played it, battlelog states out this gun comes with Full Auto, Burst and Semi... ;)

what would you guys recommend about the patches that DICE is making because i find it very difficult every few months with DLC they change very large parts of the game like the foregrip/suppressor combo that now negativly effect each other i just have trouble adjusting

It used to be HK53 on the PS3 and G53 on PC/X360. They patched it later so it became G53 on ALL platforms.

I agree well at least for me in battlefield there are no OP guns its just how well you can use a specific weapon for example all of my friends say that the f2000 is a good gun and for some reason i cant get kills with it mean while they are getting squad wipes left right and center.
