I do hope bolt action will be a viable option for the normal "soldier" class in BF1. Not just for snipers. After all even back in BF42 they substituted BARs and the like for assault rifles and bolt action was just for the engi class and the least common weapon type. Having Bolt action guns as main weapons would be a nice thing to mix up typical FPS gameplay a bit, if it really happens.

It'll be interesting to see how they've set it up. Like you said, bolt-action rifles were the standard issue, but since Battlefield has never had class restrictions in the multiplayer itself, if BF1 has SMG's or portable MG's nothing is stopping everyone from using them, which will be a bit unrealistic.

I guess it depends on how MG's and SMGs are set up, if you can "run and gun" with a lewis MG for example, or if you have to be more stationary. And what the range on those SMGs are.

I bet bolt actions will be in the game as a regular/common weapon. By the way, this is WW1 not WW2, so almost 0 automatic weapons except mounted machine guns and the occasional rare submachinegun, like the MP18. Shotguns will be available and the machineguns are probably going to be mounted or deployed by bipod.

Lets hope, but we will see. There are still plenty machinguns in WW1. Lewis gun, seen in the BF1 trailer at 0:29 and not on bipod, Madsen LMG, BAR, Hotchkiss M1919, Chauchat to name a few. If you look into the subject you will be surprised how many weapons were used in WW1 you might not expect, including even some semiauto battle rifles or Winchester lever action guns.

I don't think that'll be the case since bolt-action rifles were the most commonly used weapons in WW1. Recon might just have more powerful ones and of course scopes

The 4 classes primaries will be SMGs for assault, LMGs for support, bolt actions for recon, semi auto rifles for medic IIRC. Fine by me and aughta be well balanced IMO. And there most likely will be plenty all kit weapons like they did in hardline (M1903 and AWS for all classes, M1887 shotgun, M1 carbine, Thompson, etc)
