I have a friend who used to pilot apaches. Youngest Apache pilot out of Utah ever. He told me that you can only fire so much of 30mm chain gun before the barrel starts to melt and droop, making it ineffective until it cools down. I thought that was pretty cool.
@christianalley7669 Жыл бұрын
@@tryingtotryistrying maybe melts was the wrong word, but it only got to that point if you fire to much. The way my friend explained it is that he would only do a certain amount of burst fires from the cannon before not using it for a certain amount of time, preventing any possible malfunction. But if you do fire it for to long, he said the barrel would droop, a round would get stuck, and then the next round fired would explode on impact, basically destroying the helicopter.

@@warfarenotwarfair5655 When have A-10's operated in contested airspace?
@warfarenotwarfair5655 Жыл бұрын
@@BonesTheCat Plenty of times sustaining lots of damage. The USAF doesn't need nor want a one trick pony aircraft when it has a superior platform such as the AC-130U model and the army maintains artillery and attack helicopters. Even the B-52 can loiter for hours dropping JDAMS.
@BonesTheCat Жыл бұрын
@@warfarenotwarfair5655 Contested airspace means enemy aircraft. You'll always have ground to air fire as long as there's someone left to shoot in the air with a .22 let alone anti-air ordnance. I can't find any reference to an A-10 being shot down by an enemy aircraft. I found 12 by AAA and SAM at a loss rate of fuck all given the missions they've flown over the decades. Less than 0.06%. That 0.06% was gulf war and there were 7 losses, so there's only been 5 after that conflict as far as I can find which would add up to 10's of 1000's of sorties with 5 losses. Happy to be corrected. Is just what I found on a quick search. But, suggesting it's a redundant "one-trick-pony" aircraft is clearly complete bollocks. Boots love air support regardless of the platform. They all have their role. Out to you.
@warfarenotwarfair5655 Жыл бұрын
@@BonesTheCat It has taken significant damage enough to send it to the boneyard more than once since 1991. It relies on F-16s, and F-15s to clear the airspace which makes it a redundancy and nothing the USAF wants. The only people who want it are corrupt politicians using the military as a jobs program for their constituents and their allies constituents and ignorant people such as civilians in the media. The USAF has all of the data and shows the A-10 being obsolete for 20 years. This is intelligence/statistics versus corruption and WWE self-educating opinion types. This isn't even a debate, the A-10 is obsolete.

Basically my dumb question is this, it’s not a plane but could you put jet engines on it or would it fly? Like the jet that takes off like copter straight up, just wondering if u could get it up if it’d fly with maybe a short wing and jet engine. Guess that defeats the purpose though right?lol
