One reason Jordin may sound off balanced is likely due to her increased experience as a professional singer and recording artist. If you listen she doesn't deviate from the actual score of 'Battlefield' all that much and barely makes any improv into the performance

Another thing to take into acct with pitch is that we can't hear what they are hearing. Pitch bending takes affect when your getting the echo back from the room your singing. some artists can compensate, some cannot.
