Was probably hella expensive and complex too no? Most nations tend to see these kinda experimental guns to be way too difficult to implement leading up to and during wars. It's just way safer to use a bolt action that a soldier can field strip and maintain with ease. Apart from the French though. They gave soldiers the rsc1917 in quite big numbers.

@@Bruh-gd7hy I mean if they used it in a machine gun role then probably. But I figure it's probably intended to be used similar to the BAR maybe as an automatic rifle. You'd be hammering it pretty good if it you got to overheat so much it became unusable especially with it's capacity.

@@Bruh-gd7hy It was a short stroke recoil system and one of the first semi auto rifles of it's time. The bolt housing recoiled back with the gas piston and a cam track cut into the housing matched a cam on the bolt to unlock it. The rifle supposedly used a full power rifle cartridge so the locking mechanism would be a lot more simple than just blowback. It is definetly a lot more complicated than the average bolt action. These ideas tend to look really good on paper but militaries tend to just shun them away for a bit first because the tech is still pretty difficult to replicate in mass. Sure give it to a few soldiers like the French RSC but full scale adoption takes a lot of effort. This kinda thing has happened throughout all of history. Fun fact: Napolean turned down the first brass cartridge. Even recently (in the grand scheme of things), there's a lot of really really cool Russian firearms which you would think would just revolutionise gun development. The AN-94 for example can fire 2 rounds with the percieved recoil of 1 round. The AK107 I believe uses a balanced recoil system to give virtually none. Come to think of it, the ultimax100 has basically no recoil too. But they never get adopted because they're wayyyy too complicated for now. And at the end of the day, having the best firearms doesn't win the war. Tends to just be the nation that has the most. Look at Germany.

I'd recommend forgotten weapons if you haven't already seen him. He does some really in depth looks at firearms that are... well ... forgotten, but also some more general videos on operating systems if that's your thing. Some people find it boring but I think it's pretty damn interesting when you see all the various methods all trying to overcome similar problems. Then there's c&r arsenal who go super in depth

TBAG, An Italian rifleman in WW1 use the Carcano 91 ( were it's in battlefield 1 but in Carbine version), you can use the Bodeo 1886 (sorry if i mistake) like sidearm ( backup gun). Anyway, great job ! (like always)

- Real WW1 - 99% of guns were bolt action rifles - Battlefield 1 - automatic pistol goes brrrrrrt
