This soundtrack had no business being such a damn BANGER for simply being the MENU music! But I'll be damned if I'm not thankfull for it. This game buried itself into my memory so hard, it will be among the last things to leave my mind when dementia sets in. What an absolute blast of a game, and so many features added in, that made this live up to it's name - the soundtrack, the vehicles, the radio and following soundtracks for it, which were all bangers... My god, how far the Battlefield franchise has fallen... BF2042 might be technically more impressive, but I don't know a single person who spent more than 5 hours in it before uninstalling... Most of those same guys, have several hundred hours in BF: Vietnam... Many of those were just 1v1 fun and dicking around in jeeps, rocking the radio. Quality gameplay over all the bullshit gimmicks in BF2042.

This really encapsulates the war in Vietnam and how chaotic and confused it was. First off, the 70s drums, guitar, and the electric piano is playing a very chaotic beat which is setting up the tone of the theme. Second is of course the various lyrics inside the theme, first is what I assume is pervious president Liden B. Johnson talking about the US's duty to spread "freedom" to Asia and to contain the spread of communism. Then there is chanting, which I think is interesting because both the US and Vietnam have very different cultures, the 70s instrumental is a representation USA's culture while the chanting is Vietnam's representation of their culture, and how alien it is to the US soldiers. Then there is the most striking of them, which is the Vietnamese women speaking in English (most likely Viet-Cong or North Vietnam military personal), calling into question of that same duty...like she's asking if US soldiers even know what they are doing in Vietnam and that they have been sent here into a "war of death". She also asks for the justification of why US soldiers are here. Overall, this fuckin theme slaps (even tho I don't play Battlefield).
@kingtachanka4002 жыл бұрын
The woman speaking is Hanoi Hannah, a popular North Vietnamese radiowoman that tuned into American radios, trying to convince them that the Vietnam War was useless, that Vietnam would win anyway, and the fact that for certain groups (especially african-americans, as the assassination of MLK and other black riots were covered up, along with false info about US victory in the war being spread), their help was especially needed at home.

I feel like the Vietnam war is allot scarier than most people would think it is. I mean, you're going into a terrain that you basically cannot just predict. Next to that, the natural threats there are dangerous as well, and as an American soldier, chances are that you have no idea where you're going. And when you do stumble upon a village, you may just fall directly into a horrific vietnamese trap. Also, if I'm correct, some soldiers were also given flamethrowers, and setting a person a blaze is nightmare fuel.

I have to say, while IEDs must be incredibly stressful, the failure of the Iraq War is not much compared to the failure of Vietnam. Drafted young men forced into becoming soldiers were flown into hot, disease ridden jungles and forced to fall into spike traps in a pointless war. The ambish warfare of the Vietnamese couldnt be countered, and many soldiers became tortured PoW because of it. Truly horrific

Go ask Alice When she's ten feet tall. And if you go chasing rabbits And you know you're going to fall, Tell 'em a hookah smoking caterpillar Has given you the call. Call Alice When she was just small. When the men on the chessboard Get up and tell you where to go And you've just had some kind of mushroom And your mind is moving low. Go ask Alice I think she'll know. When logic and proportion Have fallen sloppy dead, And the White Knight is talking backwards And the Red Queen's "off with her head!"
