I prefer the relationship between clone commanders and Jedi from the old comics where the clones are barely restrained psychopaths who respond to every problem they come across by trying to kill it unless Jedi tell them not to.

@leowilliamson15736 ай бұрын
@@WonRyatt_9000 Alright? I like the clones being characterized as violent psychopaths because it makes the Jedi who lead them and are blind to how obviously wrong their existence is more pointed. Leading armies of vat-grown slave soldiers is bad, and the Jedi, being foolhardy, ossified arbiters of justice who have foolishly bought the idea they are an apolitical organization while being the Republic's peacebringers, simply blind themselves to upholding the "good" of the Republic without questioning if what they're doing was good. My reasoning was not "old thing good, new thing bad."
@leowilliamson15736 ай бұрын
@@WonRyatt_9000Okay? My reasoning wasn't that the old thing was good and the new thing is bad. My reasoning is that any version of the clones that don't make them mostly the types of people who would shoot their superior officer because someone in a higher position of authority told them to necessitates an idea like the mind control chip, and the mind control chip strips away the poignancy of Order 66. Armies of vat-grown soldiers bred to live, fight, and die by virtue of birth is bad. The Jedi uncritically accepting this is bad. The Jedi never really analyzing why the clones are as a whole behaving exactly like beings bred for war is meant to drive home the point of how the Jedi uphold the Republic yet never question if that's good, and they get their reward for not being brave enough for politics. The point stands regardless of it being Traviss or TCW.
@WonRyatt_90006 ай бұрын
@@leowilliamson1573 i wasn't arguing against you. I was merely pointing out the unfortunate fact that even if we remove TCW from the Legends continuity (a valid position to take) we still had an author who meddled with things (which if you know anything about Traviss, ya know this was sadly a common thing for her to do... Just ask Halo fans).

can you kids not understand what papa Oboe is saying. Jedi are PEACEKEEPERS. They are diplomats train in mystic martial arts that go to planets to discuss peace and tolerance. Having them mindlessly kill living things kind of goes against the whole concept of it. It should be meaningful and poignant when they have to like their hand being forced.

Star Wars media has a habit of being inconsistent with this issue. Jedi adopted the peacekeeper role following the ruin brought upon by the wars of the old Republic. With the onset of the Clone Wars, the order came to rely on their old warrior ways, to the dismay of some within and outside the order. Yet, their reliance on violence is often treated as a natural progression rather than a "fall from grace". The dichotomy between the Jedi's code and their actions during the war hasn't been given enough attention in the lore; it's been given attention - often something brief - but nothing really thorough and poignant.

Here are some recommendations from someone who put 100+ hours into modded maps on this game: Battles of the storm: a set of 5 maps that form a campaign with an overarching plot, the only downside is that you can’t play the normal modes on them Tons of cool classes and vehicles you won’t see anywhere else sand capital ships in space are greatly expanded Anything by Bantha55: He made the coruscant map from this video, and has done a lot of other great ones. His hoth map stands out by having the empire spawn at the end of a long, straight line creating a great sense of dread as you watch the AT-ATs approach The Battle of Umbara: it was awesome in the clone wars and it’s awesome as a map, it has some umbaran vehicles and also has ground to sky combat Coruscant modern warfare: a large coruscant area including an explorable senate building (even palpy’s office) with capital ships floating overhead and destructible buildings The Star destroyer has an insanely powerful bottom turret which is easy to miss It also has an “episode 7 era” but it was before the movie came out so phasma is just called chrome trooper and has a male voice

I actually read the Sarlaac Pit scene as having some sinister implications for Luke. Throughout the entire sequence we never doubt that Luke is in complete control of the situation, even when he's in cuffs he just assumes his victory is a foregone conclusion. The battle demonstrates that he has achieved immense power as a Jedi, and that he can easily mow down anyone who stands against him. The only real adversity he faces is a blaster bolt to his robot hand, which briefly interrupts the swashbuckling fun with a reminder that he is already on the path to sharing his father's fate. Sure, Jabba and his goons are deserving targets, and I'm not saying Luke isn't "allowed" to kill them in self defense. I'm not even saying that I don't want Jedi to occasionally massacre a million bad guys, cause whenever they do that it looks awesome and is great fun. I'm just saying that when it does happen, it can give off some bad vibes that authors might not intend if they are only thinking along the lines of "lightsaber = badass". At the Sarlaac Pit, the way Luke essentially toys with his prey before casually slicing through them is both enjoyable to watch and also carries some interesting implications in terms of his light/dark side alignment. I don't get bad vibes from Cal Kestis killing a bunch of stormtroopers because I personally believe he should be a pacifist and shouldn't fight back against the Empire, I get them because dominating foes with martial prowess is usually a dark side coded action in Star Wars, and it's weird that the narrative doesn't treat it that way. The generic enemies he kills by the dozens are given no dramatic weight at all, it's like the thousands of troopers he brutally dismembers don't even exist. Just once I want Cal to look at the pile of corpses he creates after a battle and say something like "damn it really sucks that I have to keep using my Jedi powers to do this to people, the Empire can't fall soon enough". Would that be cheesy and kinda forced? Certainly, and I'm sure people would hate that line and it would get a million video essays about why it's stupid. But to me that's Star Wars. Thanks for coming to my TED talk
@russianoverkill37156 ай бұрын
@@oboeshoestwos oh my god, an oboe reply. For the first two paragraphs, ROTJ Luke is on the path of the dark side, given his black outfit, and robot hand you mentioned, so maybe I picked the wrong example. I'll do it again, when Anakin is kiIIing Sераratist leaders, it certainly gives off bad vibes, but those are ugly corporate аliеns, so who cares, they prob deserved it. For the third paragraph, stormtroopers were never treated as people, they're masked goons who look like robots, some people may even thought they were robots, given C3P0, a robot, has the same costume structure. I don't really know if Cal looking back at the соrpses he created would be cheesy, depends on how subtle or "in your face" it would be. Honestly, many jedi games has this problem, in gameplay you're just having fun mowing down stuрid bad guys with your cool lightsaber, but from the other point of view you're just a mаniас kiIIing everyone. Also, can you play Dark Times 2? Great mod, it has custom campaign, also play XBOX DLC mod, that adds Kit Fisto and Asajj Ventress.
@ReanGalliams6 ай бұрын
@@russianoverkill3715 That’s reading into it too much, being a Jedi at the time of Empire the only thing you can do is to survive, stormtroopers will not hesitate to kill you and call it a justified act to put down terrorists trying to destabilise the glorious Empire, the few enjoying the rule of the Empire do not care for anyone but themselves, they see everyone else as meaningless slaves whose whole purpose is to serve them. For the majority there are no grounds for negotiation unless their reign is shaken and commoners can free themselves from the governmental pressure. And during all this lives will be lost because people tend to stick what’s present, they won’t think of the past nor the better future, though the present is miserable they will stick to it because the social environment that surrounds them say there’s no better way and obliterate anyone who dares to oppose. As for leading a revolution and changing the deep-seated prejudice is the job of the rebellion. And don’t think just because an enemy has been defeated he will then immediately change his ways, because if an unscrupulous enemy has been shown when he feigns vulnerability will recuperate his resources and power and he shall not show his foe the same mercy they gave him.

Not sure if it was mentioned, but some of my favorite mods are the Trench Warfare series It's a bit similar to the Space to Ground map packs where it's a massive battle but it's mainly focused on ground combat with some aerial combat thrown in. I think most of them are pretty good, my favorite maps being Wobani, Eadu, and Rhen Var. What is Wobani? I dunno but I like the landscape of it, got quite a few places to take cover, some bunkers, a couple of those giant clone turbo tanks you can fight on, I like to think it's a neat layout. Eadu really takes the trench warfare seriously as you're mainly fighting under this giant bunker. There's also starfighters to use but their usage is pretty limited, however it is fun going through the bunker in a bomber and just carpet bombing and area before crashing. Rhen Var is just nice and simple. It's mainly a flat surface packed with a bunch of vehicles but there's a base the rebels have the empire is trying to get to so it really feels more like a last stand, or Hoth situation, with a ton of things going on. There's also a hill leading down into the rebel base so that's also pretty cool. Overall if you like massive ground battles accompanied with aerial dogfighting/strafing, the trench warfare mods are a pretty solid choice. Last I checked, I believe they're still being made and developed to this day

btw, George Lucas was very clear to the actors of Alec and Mark that the lightsabers weigh a lot, and therefore you need training to wield one, then the prequels came out and he just didn't give a shit. He 1000% just made up everything along the way despite what some people claim. but yes, in the OT the original idea was that lightsabers were really heavy because of the energy it created pretty much made it attract to the gravitational pull of a planet (or the Death Star), it was his way of justifying why Obi-Wan was so slow in his battle against Vader. But this has been changed in canon ofc to be really light, because George never bothered to correct people like Rick McCallum or Irvin Kershner for that matter. edit: i misremembered, they didn't actually weigh THAT much, they were around the 15-20lbs range, which is still really heavy for a sword.

It's more intense and different to kill a man with a lightsaber than a blaster or, more commonly a deflected blaster-bolt because it's purely an aggressive act to straight up kill a guy. To deflect a blaster-bolt back at someone is a self-defense act. While it's just as aggressive to shoot someone, it's much more visceral, brutal, and personal to hack a man apart with a melee weapon than it is to point a gun and shoot someone with it.
