Thank you so much, HR & Masih. You're both doing a major service here. Every Iranian I've ever met has been absolutely wonderful. To hear teenage girls tell their parents they're already dead so they don't mind risking their lives was just so heartbreaking. I hope the Iranian people are successful in bringing secular democracy to Iran and that they can be an example for any other country's citizens who long for the same!

An excellent and very important discussion. Hearing about the protests in Iran reminded me of what's going on in China, the common denominator being the people realizing that what's going on isn't working. I would have to agree with her that ultimately the totalitarian approach will not only prove unsustainable but could put humanity's very existence at stake. It is a bad idea. It precludes people from fulfilling their potential at a time when more than ever it's crucial for people to be able to develop their talents and abilities to contribute to our overall survival. The totalitarian approach is much akin to lemmings going over a cliff - leads to people incapable of critical thinking, unable to question anything, look "outside the box" or engage in any constructive sharing of ideas. In a hurry going nowhere. Precluding half the human population, women, from fulfilling their potential is not the answer to the world's problems. Yet we have similar challenges right here in the US. Consider the situation recently brought to light involving Nick Fuentes. Here we have a person who openly admits he would stop elections, not allow women to vote, discontinue birth control, advocates like a "Taliban rule in America in a good way". Not to mention a host of other insidious ideas. Or Marjorie Taylor Green? Really? Normally I wouldn't even give people like this the time of day but for the incredible ways they continue to show up like so many bad pennies, effecting everyone's lives. My God - what could they possibly be smoking? It's an honest question.

It's hard to think of any country in which the government is such a complete contradiction of the character of the people it rules. Iran's people tend so strongly to be kind and generous, fair, intelligent and inventive, creative and brave -- but at the same time their rulers have been small-minded, hostile, self-indulgent, suspicious, treacherous and wholly untrustworthy. Stein's 'law comes to mind, if something can't go on forever, it won't. This regime, and the attitudes and modes of operation cannot go on forever, so it's won't. One can only hope that the end comes soon, comes quick, and comes with as little harm as possible. Many thanks!
