I wouldn‘t call Lee‘s success on the Peninsula „dazzling“. It led to a Union retreat and was certainly consequential, but neither Lee nor McClellan come out of it looking all that great. Actually, McClellan is in some ways more brilliant but his blunders are also worse (maybe wasted opportunities is more accurate).
