I had a friend come back from Mexico and he was complaining that he couldn't smoke a cigar anywhere. Even on the balcony of the condo he rented he was warned not to do so because the smoke could effect the surrounding condos. Only when he visited a friend who had thier own house was he able to smoke in thier backyard. I'm planning on visiting mexico later this year or early next year with the intention of possible retirement area scouting. The strict smoking ban is already kinda turning me off mexico. I remember you saying that you live part time in Mexico. Has the strict smoking ban effected your decision to spend time in Mexico? The food is one of my favorites but I can get decent Mexican food in the surrounding countries as well lol.

Hey Aaron great questions! Let me say that for some places, the smoking ban is in effect. As for the example of your friend's condo. It is dependent on the condo. My condo allows smoking on your own balcony or terrace but not in common areas by the pool. In the tourist areas of Playa del Carmen, such as 5th ave. I always have a cigar while sitting on the benches watching people walk by. Most restaurants in this area that have open air seating allow smoking. While there is a smoking ban, enforcement is a different story. It depends on each location. Afterall, it 's Mexico. Which areas of Mexico were you looking at? If I can be of any help let me know. There was a steep learning curve for me and I learned at lot that I did not anticipate when buying here.
