Nice work man, what a beast. Damn near the size of a kayak… the lights are such a great idea

This is such an education to watch. Really respect your attention to detail and high standards, though I gotta say I'd have been happy enough with that wood deck. But you've given me plenty to think about!

Thanks for the nice comment. The details that come in this kit are really good, and honestly there are no aftermarket products required to have a highly detailed model. This has not been the case in the past which is why I went ahead and got the aftermarket deck before looking at the kit closer. I think I will still use the metal gun barrels, but we will take a closer look at those when we get to building the guns.

great progress on the beast! Looks amazing. If I may suggest something in regards to the lighting (for future projects), sand the inside face of the clear plastic as that will not only give you the glass look on the outside but it will diffuse the lighting evenly - making it look even more realistic. I'm glad you went with warm white instead of cool white - so many people choose cool white and it looks terrible.

That’s a great idea! Thanks for the tip. I will do that next time.

Hi again from Scotland. Loving your videos - fantastic work. A question you may have already been asked but what upgrades if any , apart from the wooden deck, did you choose ? I can’t make my mind up whether to stick with an OOB build or to take the leap and buy a load of extra’s. But I question the value of too many upgrades. Thanks

Honestly I wish I had waited until this kit arrived and had a look at it first before ordering the aftermarket stuff. This kit really doesn’t need any aftermarket components. As you saw in the video that the aftermarket wooden deck wasn’t as good as the kit plastic. I also have metal gun barrels that I will use because I have them so why not, but the plastic ones in the kit are actually quite good. I will definitely be taking a closer look at them in the guns video coming up after I release the superstructure video that I might break into a couple parts because it’s getting to the 1.5 hour mark and I haven’t painted it yet 😬 So in short if this is the kit you want to build you can absolutely save the extra money on aftermarket stuff because it’s really not needed.

@@avion34 thanks for your thoughts. Definitely the way I’m leaning. I’ll keep watching your build with fascination and admiration for the quality of your work.

On the kure 1/10 model, there is a little hole instead of a small raised stud found on the tip of the bow on the 1/200 right below the golden chrysanthemum. Is it covered up, or is there actually not a hole there? Im not well vested in ships, so I'm wondering if it is supposed to be a pipe or not.
@avion344 ай бұрын
On this one you are right there is a round raised thing, but honestly I’m not sure what it is. I will have to look in the Anatomy of the ship book that I am using for reference when I get a chance. If I find out what it is I will let you know.

Great job so far! I've enjoyed the detailed explanations and your work with the photoetch pieces. The LED lighting looks fantastic. As for the wooden deck seams, next time you could cut planks from extra pieces or even from the central areas of decks and use those planks to cross over the gap. Remove the planks that were on both sides of the seams and use them to fill the holes left where you removed the long planks. Here's an example of what I mean: 3:52 kzbin.info/www/bejne/bGHSc4Wtns2Il7s

Thanks so much! I’m glad you are enjoying the videos. Thanks for the tip I will try it next time I find myself in that situation. I don’t build ships very often, but like to tackle these kind of projects because it gets me out of my comfort zone. It’s exactly those kinds of tips like you provided that I learn from to get better so thanks again.

How long do you estimate it took you to lay that gray on the entire deck? Just asking for reference
@avion34Ай бұрын
I didn’t time myself on how long each color took, but I think I spent about four to five hours on the entire deck

plus the wood can lift later on due to not sticking stick down properly
@avion3421 күн бұрын
That’s true also. I was prepared to add some wood glue to help prevent this, but maybe on the next build I will use it.

@@avion34 yes the wood deck is pretty horrible i'm afraid, PVA is messy because the dampness of it wrinkles the wood, you have to put weights all over the deck to pin it down..........yuuuch....... but you painted yours well.... no problem there.
