I can proudly say I was part of the “volunteer crew” that helped restore “Big Mo” back to her presentable condition in 1999 when I lived in Hawaii. The first thing I wanted to see was the exact spot where the Japanese surrendered. The spot is now located with a brass plate and covered with a glass bubble. USS Missouri and USS Arizona became what is known in Hawaii as the “Bookend Memorial. They are both right next to the South East side of the small Ford Island right in the middle of Pearl Harbor. By the way, the spot that they gave me to refurbish were the two 16 inch gun turrets in the front of the ship. It was my job to grind down every rust spot on those humungous gun turrets!

My main builds used to be extreme custom cars and was a ship and aircraft fanatic as a kid, probably explains why I joined the Navy as a aircraft mechanic. But what you have done is nothing short of MIRACULOUS! I had the privilege of being on the Missouri twice (just a tour) once when it had the spit and polish wooden deck, which is what I wish you would have done, I know opinions are like Aholes, and the next time it had the nonskid coating and the helo landing pad in the back. I'm going on 57 now and I don't think I'll ever have your level of patience again. Let alone the steady hands. The hardest part with a model car in my opinion is painting the dash guages. I'm just finishing up on a 1/350 scale Queen Mary 2 model and the railings and painting the fine line details about gave me several heart attacks. I'm also installing LEDs throughout. And my work on ships has a lot to be desired. LoL. Absolutely Phenomenal!!! You and the British U-BOAT builder are among my favorites to watch as well as the other Britt that has the 1/350 fleet collection. I'm almost tempted some days to give the hobby up due to being in the car restoration business and military and back to the restoration business all my life. But even with my shaking hands I can still impress myself from time to time. PS every now and then you can find LED lights at the dollar store. For a dollar of course. I'm sure since I posted this comment you are probably almost done with your Titanic but if you still have a little bit of access to the lower Hull, it's worth doing. I can send you pictures of some of my work if you are interested. eotis40@gmail.com

When I was visiting the Missouri in 1991 one of the volunteers was restoring some of the decking around frame 44. When he found out that was an active duty Marine he gave me some of the pieces that had been removed. I was hoping at some point to build a shadow box or a model of the ship but never have found the time. To accomplish what this modeler did I would have needed to start building this kit the day after I left Honolulu to get it done by 2022. Great job, worthy of the crews that manned her and the sacrifices they endured in the cause of freedom.

This is a great ship and the quality and patience that went into this endeavor. I am a US Navy veteran with service during the Viet Nam War era. My most memorable service contribution was attachment to a flag staff, Commander Cruiser Destroyer Flotilla Group 8, Classified Materials Yeoman, aboard the US John F Kennedy CV67 formally CVA67 from September 1971- September 1972, cruising the Mediterranean from December 10, 1971 to September 1, 1972. My boss was Admiral Harry D Train. It was the experience of a lifetime. I am very fond of building both wooden tall Sail ships of the 1600's-1800's and World War II plastic models. I have just begun building the Kennedy by I Love Kit, 1/350 scale. My plan is to purchase the Trumpeter Missouri 1/200 scale in the near future. So, congratulations on a beautiful thing!!!!

It's an interesting way to spend a life--no judgement; I read a lot, and that produces nothing but thoughts in my head. I do play with my six year old granddaughter a lot, and that produces something ineffable, but endlessly satisfying. Good luck to you. Speaking of reading--I'm reading a book about a woman who was the only female working in that naval yard as a diver (big brass bell over the head back in those days, & wearing 35# shoes), as the Missouri was finished in 1944. A novel called Manhattan Beach, by Jennifer Egan. There's a lot of navy, and WWII info in her story line, so much that I looked up a "launching of the USS Missouri" on KZbin with Harry Truman (then a senator from Missouri)'s daughter cracking the champagne bottle over its bow at launch time. It was a Pathe News reel. Very cool.

This is why I WISH they would do 1/200 scale destroyers. They don’t take up as much room, have all the detail and you only have to build a handful of each component. They would take a few months to build at most. And they would be amazing.

Really cool. I bought a 1/350 scale BB63 about 20 years ago. Had it about two thirds complete. I stuck it in the closet and never bothered again. When we went into lock down I took it out, lots of small parts missing after I moved house. I stripped it to the bone and I am busy rebuilding the whole ship. I manufactured all the missing parts, also downloaded the Pontos manual and manufactured all the extra detail, I did a wooden deck from balsa wood cutting the planks and installing the deck. I also made all the baskets and railings myself and I am now busy doing the catapults and crane for the aircraft. Thank you for your videos as I used them as reference for all the detail on the ship. I think I have another 3 months before completion. My ship might not be 100% correct but the satisfaction I got from building it makes it really worthwhile.

That last line right there is 100% it! My ship isn't 100% accurate either. And you can drive yourself nuts trying to get it there. For me, building is all about the experience. Learning, trying new tricks and ideas. Flexing your creative muscles a little bit. You should be very proud of what you've accomplished, sir.

It's a beautiful kit and a great build. If I had someplace to put a kit that big I'd love to take it on sometime. I was a naval officer and in the 80s and I deployed several times with her sister ship Iowa's battle group. It was a hell of a thing to see and hear those guns fired, especially knowing that they probably never will again. If anyone is wondering the brass melody playing while we view the ship is a spiritual call Hard Times Come Again No More.

The model took as long as the model was meant to take. Better to build a serious model in the right frame of mind so you dont rush and make silly mistakes, that then annoy you for a considerable time and may result in the awful situation of removing stuff to re-attach, better once and right than more than once and always an obvious stand out mistake. Great achievement and great model of a Naval Legend.( AS you are the model maker, you will always see things that, as the builder feels are little mistakes and things to be done better and of greater importance than the viewer of the overall model will notice, as the overall size and prescence of the model and level of detail is so much to take in, in a short viewing, , stunning model)

Fantastic work. She's a beauty. The hull dishing is a touch above and beyond. I have a scratch build idea for you. It's beyond my skill to do but I'm sure you can do it. Build a diorama of the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald as she sank beneath the Lake Superior waves during that terrible storm. Build it in large scale like this. You'd have to scratch build as I don't think a kit is available. The hull could be a wood block cut to shape. If I could build it I'd do the diorama so that the pilot house was under the waves already.

Awesome job. I have a 1/350 version I will try to finish one of these days. I grew up in Bremerton when the Missouri was still in the Reserve fleet and was a museum before refit in the 80's. I visited it several times as a kid.
