For such situations, especially with vessels made of composite or fiberglass hulls, they made structures especially for such moments. Instead of breaking the hullwork, making for costly delays, or even ruining the ship, the steel structure would take the brunt of the blow. IMO, a jinx that she didn't break the bottle.

Honestly, looking at the rest of the show, the Blackbird really would've been out of place. It was limited to its stealth/recon role and any scenario that popped up where it could be used could also easily be filled by a Raptor. Plus, Apollo needed to have consistency. Blackbird, destroyed. Pegasus, destroyed. Girlfriend, dead. Dad, gone. Starbuck, dead/gone.

As a vet and watching this series again vs when I was in high school and a civilian, it's interesting to me they chose to point out how a how they say "commander on deck" juxtaposed with Adama and Laura on deck but it's Adamants who tells them they don't have to stand at attention anymore. It less pomp and circumstance to me. Civilians tend to always just say "thank you for your service" and just hold the military up at this highest standard when the rolls should be reversed.

I always thought that Blackbird thing was pretty hokey. It doesn't look like they spent 1/4 the time on design and detail as they did the Vipers. It really looks like something the stage crew whipped up with some extra 4 x 8 sheets of plywood with minimal cutting...The silver stuff in the cockpit I recognize as 'Reflectix' insulation, commonly available at most hardware stores. And...If I recall they show in an earlier episode how they had the thing framed up and it was just a bunch of mild steel bits welded together, which looked nothing like any air or space craft built, ever...They ask themselves what they're going to cover it with, and only then do they think to make it 'stealth' by covering it with plywood, I mean 'carbon-composite' panels. Anyone even mildly aware would know truly stealth vehicles are designed from the ground up with that mission in mind, as it effects nearly every aspect of design and construction of everything on/in the craft. It doesn't happen at the 11th hour in development.

Yes, actually. Coated in material that doesn't reflect the signals used for the Dradis systems to prevent being spotted via active scans and keeping to thrusters and minimal use of engines whenever possible around hostile craft to avoid passive scans picking up the engine flares. You aren't going to be using it as a stealth fighter the way F-22s and F-35s are in the modern day, but it makes for a perfect scout craft. This isn't even the only time we see such a craft. In flashbacks to the first Cylon War, we see the Stealthstar, a proper stealth Viper deployed to spy on the Cylons prior to the outbreak of the first war.
