I dont understand why british attacked french navy. Its obvious that they wouldnt fight because all what french can do in ww2 was show white flag :D Thats also why french tanks got 5 reverse gears and only one forward ( in case when enemy was attacking from the back)

😂. Iirc the Brits were afraid that the Germans would acquire the ships and use them against the Allies. Even if the French scuttled as they did in other locations there was a fear that the Germans would raise and repair them.
