I saw Battles during Primus’ “A Tribute to Kings” tour. To say that I was impressed would be a massive understatement. Walking into the venue, I expected an alt rock band that had maybe one good song in their entire set. This is the first time I stood at a concert wanting more from the opening band. They closed their set with this song, and it’s genuinely one of the best songs I’ve ever seen live. Shoutout to Primus for getting me into Battles I guess.
@LemursManLemurs12 жыл бұрын
Fuck yeah dude! Love Primus. That's really cool that your introduction to Battles was at a Primus show. I saw Primus at Red Rocks just outside Denver back in like March. And they put on an amazing show as always. Them, Electric Wizard, and Grizzly Bear are my favorite live band experiences...Anyway; Battles, Primus, Electric Wizard, T Rex, 13th Floor Elevators, Grizzly Bear, Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and Mastodon. Between those bands basically all of my needs are met. I do listen to stuff outside of that. But 90% of the time it's one of those bands. Throw in Wu Tang, Mf Doom, Vince Staples, or Esoteric if I want to listen to some hip hop. Which I am in the mood for sometimes. Anyway...Realized I ignored that genre lol.

@Random Citizen The song Tonto in parts sounds like Don Caballero sort of. But DC is more stripped down. The band features ian williams of battles and also notably the highly talented drummer damon che along with other people to create, in my opinion, one of the most interesting bands ive ever heard. The two albums I recommend of their 6 are What Burns Never Returns and American Don. These albums are instrumental rock which fuses extremely awesome guitar/bass with world class drumming to create extremely awesome innovative moments. They aren't "easy" to listen to, so I suggest listening at a time when you can concentrate on them. American Don is likely if the easier to listen to of the two, because an effects pedal replaced one member so there isn't as much to pick out. But the effects pedal works, too, so it isn't a huge loss. These albums are highly technical and in places cold. But the songs do have melody sprinkled without, you just need to find it. and it is satisfying when you do. As for me, several immediately come to mind. Off of What Burns: about 3:15 in the song "charging bull" for a sweet transition, 2:27 in "slice where you live like pie" for a short but sweet head bop moment and its teaser at 2:39, and in "The World in Perforated Lines" the intro, followed by thew sweet guitar moment at 1:53. some good moments from American Don are :33 seconds onward in "Haven't Lived Afro Pop", 2:12 onward in "fire back about your new babys sex" but the drum fill at 3:03, and 2:47 onward in "lets face it pal" for a very explosive way to end the album with some awesome guitar work by williams so yeah, i hope you enjoy!
