This has always been an "almost" mech for me. It's almost good, almost something I'd want to take, almost a good design. If the base model had anything other than an IS LPL (PPC, ERPPC, ERLL, etc) it would probably be something I'd outfit in a lot more forces. A combo of spotter and bodyguard.

@matthewmarek1467 I'm with you on dropping off the LPL for either a ERPPC or ERLL. I want something to reach out there when closing or running the flanks

It's a good mech. The best thing about it is the joint work between Comstar and Rasalhague to make them. Im with you on MASC...and UAC's 😢

@ogrehaslayers605 Thanks, it has a purpose in the game depending on the version.

I have used the Beowulf several times. Normally with a Viking. I have a lineup that uses the Beowulf, Viking, Tesson, and Exterminator. Using the I-NARC the TAG has a unique effect. It does well vs IS mechs. The large pulse laser and ER Medium Laser combo share similar ranges. As the mech has short-range weapons I tend to try to flank. Hard to pull off against clan players. I do use the MASC. The 7/11 is terrible when you’re having to change elevations. Would I rather have ECM? No, this mechs grounds movement would have the Active Probe be useful to spot mines. Rarely do I play against players that use mines. So, ECM would be nice to protect a C3i network. When you are looking for ECM. The C3i Nightshades round off the level II. I use the Beowulf as a scout or recon hunter killer. Regrets. Never played the mechs variants. Maybe one of these days. For the Viking there is little need over one ton of NARC ammo. The reset of the unit should have more specialized I-NARC ammo.

@Magermh There's always something to tweak on the mech for improving towards our way of playing. Usually, we drop mines via artillery, and players know the location, so having a beagle probe isn't a huge advantage.

@@Helcarexe26 FASCAM ammo on top of light LRM's with thunder or thunder augmented rounds. I just had a game were the player was trying FASCAM for the first time. They struggled because of dispersion for the fields. As it was their first time they will eventually find the comfort zone with area and density. Miss fortune for them that I brought a AC-2 Partisan with flak to keep the Sprint VTOL's at long range of the TAG's. This made the semi-guided rounds less impactful. They have effectively made the Active Probe near useless in a classic game. For the most part they have finally clarified that the Probe may spot battle armored infantry that are not stealth units in ambush. In double blind games the probe useful in city combat where buildings are set on fire often and targets like to vector away for flanks. It still reveals the unit behind the LOS blocking smoke or building. I did have a game where a probe would be useful as a SRM Carrier was hidden in a patch of light woods by the defense objective. It effectively one shot my light mech that jumped right in front of it. That was a case of good positioning. That opponent was hyper critical of themselves and often suffered in confidence leading to mess ups. Against the same opponent I put Toads in ambush alone in a open flank and left it open. A Viper Prime jumped over one point and ended up landing at the end of its jump with a broken foot actuator. That game ended in a withdraw and they got a minor victory on BV destroyed as they had managed to cream a Warhawk.

@Magermh In most games you'll never see hidden units on the table, but if you do then those probes are welcome sight 😉 Now allowing the players to drop Fascam first and writing down the location before hand as hidden mines 😉 is a interesting scenario
