This mech is a terrible waste. You save 300k C-bills by modifying a Commando into one, but who'd want a Commando variant with only 3 tons of armor? My meccenary commander's thoughts are to sell it and buy something that isn't a glorified Wasp. I don't think light mechs are fiscally responsible for a mercenary. Unless they have hardened armor there's just too armor before they start taking expensive component damage. But at 20 tons you can't even take two medium lasers to the same location without internal damage. With expensive tech behind that paper thin armor, no range, and a speed profile that should have been obsolete with the invention of non-primitive fusion engines, buying Cossacks is like buying Trellshire Industries stock during the Clan invasion. Even for the militia of an agriworld well behind the borders with nothing worth an objective raid this is a bad buy, though not quite as bad as if it will get shot at.
@Helcarexe26
@Helcarexe26 9 күн бұрын
You have that exactly correct with any good Merc Unit would still use a Succession Wars mech and just add some good advance tech to it and save the money for more of the same. I feel you'd be better off with a Phoenix Hawk instead that has the armor and ability to cause havoc than the Cossack. The Cossack has the feel of a militia or police force mech than a front-line fighter

I can see it as a decent siege or defensive tank. one of the issues with this is that in Battletech there don't seem to be many months or years long wars where vehicles like this that bombard and can protect themselves would make sense on both sides. I have been using an effective lance from the DCMS in 3039 Successor Wars era. A Grand Dragon, Lancelot, and two Panthers. Had a comical game where my opponent was trying to move in on a flank. I did a fighting retreat into the flankers and PPC'ed them down one at a time. Then they pushed in with an Atlas down the center as my retreat was to keep me out of range of the Atlas. It only takes 4 PPC to take down an Atlas. If I remember correctly a Draconis PPC is made with Sake. Another game with the same lance my opponent focus on the Lancelot hard trying to kill it. Because of the energy loadout the mech took fire turns just to nock off its feet. As they where focused on the Lancelot. I had managed to move the Grand Dragon into a side flank and charge my two panthers into melee range. That was a good game as the game turned in my favor after kicking a leg off one of my opponents mechs. I lost one of the Panthers in the melee but the Lancelot survived at end of game with a gyro hit and missing an arm. That armor maybe thin but its still a heavy mech.

I'd probably pull the ArtIV from the base version. Standard FCS doesn't help on indirect fire, so more ammo would be better. Edit, And I'd probably skip the ATM variant for my motor pool. Both because of the heavy laser and because long range fire is really inefficient with ATM's over clan LRMs.

The Ostscout is a hidden gem of a mech that gets critical thinkers stuck into a ridiculous thought loop of it being terrible mech. In the last update for the 3025 TRO added hand actuators as part of the record sheet. Before the mech had issues. But I started playing with it before the corrections or changes. The Ostscout is an absolute menace in 3025. The 8 jump jets nets you a +4 at all times and before it could just kick but now it can punch. With the new update I have racked up an impressive number of kills and have had some player accept the mech. The list of kills include. Ripping the ammo bins out the rear armor of a Centurion. Punching the head off a Rifleman from the rear. Kicking some medium mechs onto the ground. The addition of hands offer the player many advantages in RPG play as well. Hand actions for the good old fashion F-U-2, pinky up yours, I love you’s, get lost and complete sign langue thank you’s. When working with a companion that also has hands you could be signing to your Archer buddy on the hill and you kick someone in the rear or sucker them out of cover for a good valley of LRM’s.

I have had some good games with the Mars. I do play Hell’s Horses for the Clans and often use the Ares Tank as a companion vehicle for the Mars “XL”. On a one vee two game where two players played against a single player. My companion player parked an “ATM” Mars on the right flank on a hill and held the flank vs three mechs permitting me to focus on protecting the center and providing support to the right flank. It is another way to be engaging in the fun of Battletech to split control of forces between other players like mechs, vehicle, and aerospace fighters. That way others may join in and sometime make mistakes and create opportunities for the game. In this case I am grateful to the Mars.

I like the Dragon Fire. I have a mini that unfortunately had been glued at a nose dive angle due to me bumping it when it was drying. So, it is always looking down at the toads in the game. 😊Over all I have had a satisfied impression of the Dragon Fire. I have mostly played the 3F and 6FC variants. Each game the mech performed as cool as ice cream and had good sustain even when standing in fire. I like the gauss rifle and LB combination as the ammo weapons may shoot VTOLs and slug a mech with a gauss as the LB cluster round armor strip or crit hunt. The mech performs better for me in smaller games with the head hunting gauss rifle. I have little issue with the XL engine vs the volatile payload of ammo and gauss rifle. As the mech most often the mechs ends with engine destruction. In my campaign the engine just ended up replaced and torso restored. It is better than a complete loss as time repairs. I have the 3F in a Comstar level II with Raijin 101-C and Hussars. Last game. I played the Dragon Fire 6FC paired with a Flashman, Raijin 200, and Light Ray and Nexus II for a WoB match. It was mostly mechs and I sub-netted the C3i networks to lower the units BV. I can no longer remember what I used to capitalize on the TAG on the Nexus. I do keep a bad record of my line-ups and I am wondering if this was a planned game last and I did not get a chance to play that line-up. This mech is a missed opportunity as it is an excellent candidate for the DCMS Ballistic Reinforced armor. I have considered this mech for DCMS line-ups or games as it does fit their MO.

The Badger has been played by me twice. I do like the primary configuration the most but have used two others including the D and the G. Considering the uses that others have already posts in taking a large infantry line or a lance with just two vehicles. The LRM configuration is notable to me. I have yet to play it. The carry capability of omni vehicles means I could use fewer ground vehicles to match a game. The clan variant is interesting. The G stuck out for me the most as it permits me to carry assault battle armor and motorized infantry platoons. There are only a handful of vehicles that may move assault battle armor. The prime permitted me a mixed unit of IS standard battle armor and jump infantry. The SRM-2 on the prime was loaded with smoke rounds to stack with jump infantry in stealth suites. The Badger advantages are weighted in being capable of moving into buildings for cover or forested terrain to deploy troopers and the omni riders. I played it in a forested map where the 6 mp was useful moving through three hex thick light woods. The wonderful thing about the Badger is it permits me to consider a MERC force using Omnimechs like the Avatar, Blackhawk KU, Blackjack, and Firestarter “All be best friends” (ABBF). Or taking a more BA and infantry focused force for citytech. But the need for bridges for crossing water is always an issue for me when my opponent has the choice of field. This unit is on a wish list. The issues that popped up with the vehicle is its armor is no better than a heavy APC and its all-energy weapons loadout was more effective vs mechanized infantry platoons but could drop your fire power down to none with engine hits. The availability of the vehicle in the MUL being merc forces until the dark age lowers availability. I could play the vehicle because of its lower BV with a 3/5 crew. The lack of pulse laser configurations kind of niches the vehicles BV for crew requirement.
@Helcarexe26
@Helcarexe26 18 күн бұрын
@Magermh It's an interesting thing with the vehicle being limited in availability early on, but if you can add some to your force they're great addition for moving the infantry around the battlefield. The armor is a limitation for getting them stuck in, but good later game harrassment vehicles
