Yeah, it's very silly. But when your society is formed entirely out of traumatised war veterans, formalising victory and defeat has a lot of appeal.

It dates back to when the Clans were busy fighting each other and advancing their technology. They understood that they were all, technically, on the same side and killing potentially skilled warriors was wasteful. And the Clans abhorred waste.

@@adamsteele23 Killing potentially skilled warriors for no gain is wasteful in their eyes. And to that end, they trained and drilled with live ammunition. This, and the whole "we shall notabriviate, as it dishonours our sacred language, but also, aff, neg, batchall etc." just shows clanner philosophy to be selective at best, and flat out hypocritical at worst.

I first watched this ages ago on tv and not the whole show. Wasn't sure if it was going to be over the top... but honestly this has aged fairly well for something that has not had a full HD remaster. A pity it is likely lost in IP hell or else someone would have put it on disc or paid streaming. (Not that I am complaining that its free >_>)

@@AliceBowie They're a very blunt people. If one of them thinks something is BS they will call it out as such; there's this thing called a "Trial of Refusal" where you fight the guy giving you orders if you think those orders are bad; and if you win you don't have to follow them.

This is where things are becoming more personal. Star Colonel Nicolai Malthus started to become more stubborn and his self-interest got the best of him just for personal glory and personal gain against Major Adam Steiner. Shit just got real. Nicolai has dishonored himself and also his clan for his irresponsible and reckless behavior. I love this series!
