A great all around missile boat! Archers can be the backbone of a good support lance.

My favorite missile mech in MWO. Doesn't matter if you are running LRM's, MRM's or SRM's, the Archer is always a solid choice.

The Longbow may look cooler, but the Archer is just a better all around 'mech. Walk it into some water to help dissipate heat... and get you a light 'mech with TAG and you've got yourself a beachside assassin!

I love seeing all the “unseen” mechs, especially with the newer style artwork. It retains the charm of the original design but moves it away from just being copypasta’d from Macross. I never played the tabletop games (being just a Mechwarrior video gamer). How does this mech compare to the Catapult? It seems like you could make it much more useful with the manipulators.

Cats tend to be more maneuverable due to their jump jets while archers have more survivability with their increased armor protection. I love both.

Cats are more maneuverable and more modular because of its ‘design philosophy’. ‘If it fits on a Catapult it works, if it works use it’ is all you need to know for modifying a Catapult.

One of my favorite heavy (250 ton) lances paired a homegrown Archer variant that had replaced the 2 lrm 20's with 8 lrm 5's firing Thunder rounds and a c3 paired with a 100 ton armed with 2 gauss and 2 ppc's, also with c3.

@@GrimDarkNarrator same amount of tubes 😄. Thunder rounds let me lay minefields in front of enemy mechs, dropping their movement modifiers so the 100 tonner could drop them at range, especially with the c3 system 👍

I've thought about doing up a modification for Urban Combat or Solaris Dueling. Switch out the LRM20s for MRM30s, and double heat sinks. You need to get up close, but a volley of 60 missiles can pretty much destroy anything it faces. Plus it has fists for brawling if needed.

Basically, the original Archer design was the Spartan Destroid from Robotech. Battledroids (the original Battletech) under Fasa had a real problem keeping their hands off of other peoples copy rights and I think several of the Robotech designers helped to kickstart Battledroids. In facts George Lucas sued Fasa over the use of the word droids and claimed to hold the copyright on the word. After settling several law suits we got the rendition of Battletech all of the mid 80s to late 90s geeks loved.

Some of you young whipper-snappers may not remember but back in the day our local hobby shop got a shipment in of new 'mechs and behold we got a mispackaged Bombardier labeled as an Archer.... we went round and round wondering if this was a new "variant" of the Archer until we finally saw a Bombardier appropriately marked and thus began searching for a technical readout giving us the stats on the Bombardier... which isn't a "bad" mech but tends to run out of ammo quick and NEVER could stand toe to toe with an Archer...… this was ALL back in the P-I days (pre-internet).

I remember those days when the comic and hobby shops had the peg boards with blue card Battletech miniatures. Boy I miss those days. Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't the Bombadier slower than the Archer, but had more armor?

I like putting er ppcs to long range kill everything or when I get the hero one in mw5 I like all srms it shot gun kills anything.

4xSRM6 and 4xML perhaps 2 JJs for some fun. But 4 LRM15 still my goto since brawling isn't its job. I have my Phract with AC20 and 5xML for that.

I always disliked playing with Archers. I played the original Battletech, back even before Mechwarrior rules came out. And I always had the worst luck with LRMs. LRM20s don't do much damage if you always roll so that only 4 or 5 missiles actually hit. Of course any Archer firing at me always landed 16 to 20 missiles. And the first bit of damage that penetrated the torso armor always, ALWAYS triggered an ammo explosion that gutted my mech. Mechwarrior rules certainly helped; you could spec up a pilot with LRM skills that guaranteed more missiles actually hit, which is why I loved my Stalker so much once I got it.

This is the only one of the unseen that I got my hands on. I had fun with it by building a shield for it that I called a box. It was pretty much just a work around of the rules of the board game what allowed my to add some extra armor and weapons as a "Carried Weight" IRL I got it as a birthday gift, lore wise it was salvaged from a broken down jump ship I encountered as part of a high risk rescue mission that was contracted to mercenaries because we are expendable. First thing I did was replace its missile systems with Star League Era missile launchers and targeting system since I had access to it. Like most of my inner sphere mechs it became unused once I got enough Clan tech and the ability to manufacture it from Ghost Bear (not entirely true as I got some of the manufacturing tech from trials of possession with Smoke Jag and Wolf as I valued the ability to make their tech more than having it and yes in the long run that paid out handsomely), but it did get some clan tech upgrades before that.

It's a good mech but the overheating is a problem. I can launch like 2 or 3 barrages of missiles and I'll be almost at critical level of heat.

They should really update the mech designs for this franchise. The Battletech Universe seems interesting, but its visually very dated (80's looking).

Some might say that's part of the charm. I think some of the stuff both feels and looks dated, but other things are fine as they are.
