Why the two distinctive names? Was “Gargoyle” too ugly for the Core? I know the ability's repeated in this video, but this 'Mech's speed is impressive for an assault unit. The arm-mounted weaponry is both an immediate advantage and disadvantage: this guy's guns can be intentionally placed on and unwillingly, violently taken off, with straightforward access. Haha...the Clan-ers left out standing in their battlefield, to watch helplessly disarmed as their former opponents become victoriously-waving passersby. This video was the phone book list of varying Gargoyles/Manowars. Configuration “D', the laser lord, sounds like a preferred model, along with its upgrade in the “H” version adding an LRM launcher as a good idea. That “K” Clan 'Mech, though, armed with a giant hatchet - that should've been classified instead as “L”, for “lumberjacking“. At last, as for the mysterious, dark “X” variant...but, with those armament alterations, is it slower? Besides the heavy metal band, its name brings to my mind “X-O Manowar”, which isn't so unrelatable, either. More assault 'Mechs lend more variety to the class and the overall roster of 'Mechs; so, this seems like a useful base model, at the least. Its design lending itself to multiple configurations is obviously advantageous. Thanks for showing off this monster from the BattleTech universe that I'd never heard of before, GDN. It's always a pleasure to find out more about this awesomely-'80s universe. 'Til you sign-on next, Narrator, be well and have a great week.

If you think that's '80s you should watch the movie robot jox it's the only movie I got to watch that reminded me of BattleTech also there was the cartoon that did a fairly good job itself and how you wrote down about clan-ers being helpless with the Gargoyle configuration that was viciously well written oh boy I can imagine you Writing down how flawed a clan mate tactics were and watch him walk away in shame😞 oh boy it would be hilarious 😂

@@donright4492 Robot Jox, don; great reference! The character of Tex, "See you in hell!", followed by his suicide leap down an elevator shaft... And I played through all of the episodes of the BattleTech animated series, for the first time just in the past couple years. I'd remembered it since the '90s, though. I wonder if GDN has seen that.

All clan Omnis from the 3050 TRO and some from the later TROs have two names as the machines were given IS designation before IS military intelligence learned the actual names given to the machines by clanners. Something along the NATO designation for soviet tech where Su-25 had been designated as Frogfoot by NATO, but being called Grach by USSR crews.

these little videos honestly make my day, the stability of hearing how a stompy machine is either maligned or graced by design can still fuck your shit up if you treat it like a joke

Any ammo in clan 'Mech arms is not a recipe for a disaster. Don't forget that all clan 'Mechs are equipped with CASE by default without any cost of critical space and weight. It will rip off the arm and shock the pilot, but it won't wreck the entire machine like it would with IS machines.

This one always made me think of the stereotypical "war robot", due to its appearance. Still, a very versatile and powerful mech.

Good video. I do think there was one thing missing, the age of the design irl. While in game, this was perhaps 2nd or 3rd Generation OmniMech for the Clans. The Gargoyle was among first batch of OmniMechs introduced by FASA (original Company who made BattleTech) . The Clans in general were balance changer, Gargoyle itself was designed certain way so it wasn't invincible, that it had means for less well armed mechs players to defeat it. Aside from ganging up on Clan warriors who were using dueling rules the Clans used, while Inner Sphere defenders did not. While it was never spelled out, FASA i believed made it flawed to begin with. Not fatally, but just enough.

your assumptions on the gargoyle Are so true and like your insight on these things too Wrangler but a true professional will learn how to work out its flaws there's always that old saying it's not the machine or the weapon it's the man that's behind it That wheels it

I keep several Gargoyles in my Snow Raven Assault stars. Their biggest benefit is the unusual speed profile for and assault. With proper long-range support getting some of the brawler variants close to the enemy can be relatively easy, but you have to watch the heat build up a lot, in my opinion

Hello Grim. Yeah, the Gargoyle. Oh, how I hated this Mech when the Clans first appeared in the game. Fast for and Assault, and usually found with a Targeting Computer to further enhance the accuracy of their already better pilots, the damned things were painful to meet with 3025 tech Mechs. Figuring out the 'it's all in the arms' thing, though, did make the Gargoyle manageable. Just shoot off the arms. Thus, 'pincer' attacks against Gargoyles became a 'thing' for a while. A pair of Archers, split to the sides, could eventually wear down the arms of the Gargoyles and set off unused ammo to 'dis-arm' them. This was about the time I sort of 'gave up' on playing the game as often as I used to. Not due to the game itself getting worse, but the attitudes of the other Players. Where most of the Clan players were crowing about how good they were against all opposition, and not taking into account their superior pilots, and technical advanced weaponry, against 'inferior' foes. This attitude 'rubbed me raw', and even if I played Clan Mechs against them and won, they still thought of themselves as being superior tacticians... and exclaimed it... loudly, and often. Given a 'level' playing field (Clan tech vs Clan tech), I almost always won. But did that dampen their bloated sense of self-worth? Hardly. All of this put a bad taste in my mouth for Clan tech, and anything Clan related. And I just 'gave up' playing the game for a decade. Thus missing the Dark Age, and the Jihad. Upon my return, and with the vast assortment of items now available for an Inner Sphere player, I became more involved in the game when I returned after a 12-year flirtation with Warhammer 40K (which I gave up on due to GW's pricing the game out of the reach of most of its fan base, and changing rules every couple of years or so). I started with the introduction of 4th Edition 40K, and gave up just before the 8th Edition was published. FOUR new sets of rules, costing a LOT of money each (basic rules, plus relevant codexes), in a 12-year span... yeah, not economically feasible. My return to Battletech, and the discovery that the original rules were (by and large) mostly intact and unchanged, was a major surprise. Yes, there were some changes, but most of them were clarifications of existing rules, and not really new rules added to the game. One CAN make the case that ECM, ECCM, Stealth Armor, and other such things as 'adding new rules', but I saw all that as extensions of existing rules, and not as the kinds of major changes that 40K's rules underwent so frequently. I am happy to be back as a Battletech Player. Playing a game that has so much potential for fun battles, and so much allowable change to the units one can field on the tabletops. As for the 'Man of War'? The Gargoyle? I no longer 'fear' it... With the kinds of weaponry available to an Inner Sphere Player, post Jihad era, I feel the Gargoyle is no longer a unit to fear on the battlefield. Now, a Kodiak? THAT is fearsome.
