The use of Tex and other BT contributors as voice-overs was a really nice touch. Gave it a "historical counterpoint" feel, and even more depth.

Thank you. I was aiming to expand my documentary-like style and having some "historians" come on to voice their opinions seemed like a fun way to collaborate with some of my favourite BT channels. I kept things manageable with just five in the first episode but there are certainly others I'd love to get in touch with.

The infographics in the Military Growth section really show why every sane opponent feared provoking the SLDF, and how it managed to grind down the Periphery, then go straight on to crush Amaris, and still retain the might to potentially decide the balance of power in the IS. Just boggling numbers there. Also explains how the Exodus fleet could start an entire new society so far beyond the borders, fight their own massive civil war, and still have the ability to rebuild into a true threat to the IS in the centuries to come. Even the much-reduced SLDF was an enormous organization.
@SvenVanDerPlank2 жыл бұрын
I really delve into the numbers in the next episode. The size of the SLDF is just utter insanity.
@richmcgee4342 жыл бұрын
@@SvenVanDerPlank The League operated on a scale that beggars imaginations, but it's still hard to believe the Great Houses let the SLDF grow to that size while exerting so little control over it. Even the Camerons didn't really control it, its served an ideal rather than a man or even a dynasty. Sadly not a very good ideal, and in the end the avoidance of politics left the SLDF unable (or at least unwilling) to rebuild after Amaris. Kerensky's career proves the SLDF was shocking independent and the majority of its members were ultimately loyal to the organization rather than the smaller polities they were born and raised in. Must have had a phenomenally effective training program to break so many recruits of their regional loyalties and make them see the SLDF (and to a lesser degree, the League as a concept) as "home" no matter what their background.

One of the things that I have always thought was that Richard Cameron was really set up for failure. A large part of this is Kerensky himself. Alexander was brilliant yet human and fallible. He really should have seen that he could either be the leader of the SLDF or Reginent, not both. A large part of Richards failings can be laid at Alexander's feet. The young Cameron was not at all prepared for his role, not was he properly raised. In a modern comparison would be that of Joffery from King of Thrones. He was horrible in part because he had few checks and balances, and no real parental guidance. We will never know if history would have been different, had Kerensky devoted himself fully to the Regent role.
@SvenVanDerPlank2 жыл бұрын
100% agree. Kerensky was not perfect and despite trying to do good, as a regent he was not very effective and allowed the First Lord to be exploited.

Look as Cameron is my favorite house and I'm literally foaming at the mouth for a Cameron restoration in the Ilclan era. Goddamn was Richard Cameron blindingly unself aware and don't get me wrong he was a KID and ISOLATED he had 0% chance the state set him up to fail as well as the bad parenting practices of the dynasty in general. IF they ever do a Cameron (best way is a video game IMO) Restoration the dissection of that part of the dynasty and the faults of the house in general would make great character building for a Restoring Cameron to reflect upon also I think would make good reading/gameplay.
@SvenVanDerPlank2 жыл бұрын
I would be interested to see that too. I'm not familiar with the later lore but I think there is some great potential there. I do try to rehabilitate Richard Cameron in this series because he gets a bad reputation and I want people to realise he was just a victim.
@jamesperkins191 Жыл бұрын
There's sucessors to the Mckennas, and, secretly, the Camerons in the The Clans. Richard's sister had two children, the second one with Amaris (ew) but the first with her brother (double ew).
@DeamonMaim Жыл бұрын
@@jamesperkins191 where on earth does it read that? I always heard that they all got shot in the throne room. I never heard of any of them escaping... well except the whole Tirpitz affair but that would've been more like an obscure Cameron that would only line up for the throne after Amaris killed everyone. Never heard anything about incest and rape babies. Also, wasn't Amaris Married? (Not like it would stop him)
