I used to really love teaching new players to play. Good to see this still happening elsewhere.

53:37 "you can never end your turn on a double activation." From Alpha Strike Commander's edition: To maintain fairness, unequal numbers of units must be moved in proportion. This means that if, prior to any pair of unit movements, one side has twice as many units left to move as the other side, the player with twice as many units must move two units on his side, rather than one. If a side has three times as many units as its opponent, it must move three units at a time to every one of its opponent’s units moved, and so forth. Many folks house rule front loaded initiative, (new player sidebar: frontloaded initiative is an unofficial variant on initiative order where the extra movements are moved first) which in most cases would have the last pair of movements as 1-1. The exception being if the side that wins initiative doubles the opposing forces units, each set of moves would be 1-2. I'll admit that I may be overly pedantic for a chill "introduce a friend to Battletech" video, rather than a formal learn to play. I am sort of a stickler for teaching new players the rules as written, unless it's pointed out how the rule as written works and then addressing the modification or house rule that a particular group uses. Sorry for the nit picking, I enjoyed the video. It's always good to see new players getting into the game and remembering what it was like first getting into the game.

always good to see new people coming into the game.

Always nice to see someone new getting into the game. Alpha Strike is definitely a lower bar for entry than classic but Battletech is Battletech. 👍

I guess that gets to be me. For the Fire Moth, the "Dasher" designation is the Inner Sphere name. The Clans almost always name their 'Mechs (and Clans) after animals, mostly generically modified versions of Terran (Earth) animals but some are actually alien animals. So if there is doubt and one is an animal related name and the other not, the animal name is the Clan name.

First time anyone has explained the nomenclature for Clan Mechs that way, that'll make it a bit easier to remember which is the IS designation and which is the Clan. Awesome :)

How come you teach target number in an order other than SATOR? I find it a good habit to start with to make sure you check each of the modifiers and don't forget anything.

@@MrCptCaveman I learn by doing not by reading and this was how I was taught, good catch though. If we had the book out with that page I’d probably have followed it.

Dasher= IS , Fire Moth= Clan 😂

I get them mixed up lol. As a merc player I’m inclined to believe we worry more about the pew pew and less about the names 🤣

How ironic that you're wearing that 35th anniversary shirt. I just got my first BattleTech minis in 35 years today and it's all your fault. 😂 Thank you for that. 😊
