Laser-heavy loadouts, reach out and torch someone. This bad boy reminds me of the grasshopper, but the use of an SRM-6 over an LRM-5 feels like the better choice overall. The Guillotine is one mech i really like yet which seems basically NO representation in any work, whether it´s novel, games or video. It even got a CLAN VERSION for f*cks sake! Jim Nelson´s early image of the full frontal Guillotine was one of the best depictions in the 2750 TRO. Chris Lewis and Leon Gor stayed true to it, and the Sam Wood CCG images look excellent as well. Same with the upodated interpretation by Alan Blackwell that´s now the official artwork, this mech really looks GOOD. And hits like a FREIGHT TRAIN.

It's in an odd spot where these game designers will rarely think they can fit the Guillotine in. I'm in the same boat of not liking how unused it is. Aesthetically less important than Unseens so it had a lower priority when the former were returning, gameplay wise for electronic media its optimized for a single sink design and so is less "interesting" than inadequately sinked alternatives. It's basically the grandfather of the Grasshopper, with some more technology (strange to be such a veteranly old design versus the Grasshopper that is tremendously more modern) and changing the SRM capacity of the Guillotine for LRM for the Grasshopper, but the biggest difference, is that the Grasshopper is somewhat more prepared for melee combat, both for its hand actuators and for the position of the Large Laser. The Guillotine strangely has no royal version despite its age.
@MM229662 жыл бұрын
No Royal version that you KNOW of! Who knows what records were lost in the Fall?
@Timberjac2 жыл бұрын
@@MM22966 It is tremendously unlikely that a mech with that antiquity had a royal variant and was not known, when it was known about the existence of projects such as the Annihilator, which were really late and disappeared from history in exile and yet were identified when Wolf's Dragons appeared in the inner sphere. And once the memory core was discovered, it's hard that there wouldn't have been a copy of something as old as a "royal" Guillotine. It may have happened... yes, but it is really unlikely that something like this would have disappeared from history.

The Guillotine is one of those mechs that just works. Slap it on basically any lance and it'll make itself useful, it helps that it's also one of the less derpy of the FASA era designs. Sure you can nitpick it's design flaws, and it does have a fair few of those, but at the end of the day you cannot deny it's versatility or it's staying power particularly against other mechs that excel in urban environments like the Victor or Hunchback.
@theapostatejack86482 жыл бұрын
The Guillotine is a staggeringly good mech, and the Clan Coyote refit shows this in spades. All their technicians did was swap out the heatsinks for slightly fewer doubles then make use of the saved weight to enhance the energy weapons significantly (to the point where the heatsinks have no hope of coping with the combined output of an ER PPC, two ER Mediums and a pair of Large Pulse Lasers), and replace the SRM-6 with a streamlined Clan version.
@jollyjohnthepirate31682 жыл бұрын
The Guillotine works best in Table Top as a flanking mech. As a part of a heavy lance it's best used to jump into position after the enemy has reacted to whatever the other friendly mechs are doing. When it gets up close and personal it acts like a can opener on opposing mechs.
@Bluehairedgirl892 жыл бұрын
Ah the Guillotine, now this is a mech that I know well and I have so much respect for it! It’s a old warhorse but still damn good at what it does and the fact that it’s been produced so long and is so rugged means that they are easy to find out in the periphery. They arnt as common as some mechs like the Thunderbolt but they are still easy enough to find and supply. And when you put a pilot in one then that have a good chance of coming back alive. I have a fair amount of experience with this machine as well, I trained in the simulator with all of my units mechs and especially my Mama’s t-bolt but when I was made a official Mechwarrior apprentice I was assigned to apprentice with Corporal Torres, who piloted the Guillotine in my mama’s heavy lance. I was expected to learn how to pilot her machine and to be able to take it into combat if she was sick, injured, or killed. So I got a lot of hands on training with it and I was involved in a few fights inside one before I finally was assigned by Hatchetman. But I can attest to the durability of this machine, Corporal Torres was a hood Mechwarrior and a aggressive brawler. I watched her bring that machine limping back to the hanger half scrapped after jump jetting alone into the middle of a enemy lance and taking them apart with pure speed and violence. This is a machine that can bring a pilot home. It may be old but it’s still a good war machine.

The Guillotine is one of the best mechs out of 2750. It's well armed, well armored, comparatively low cost in BV, and is a great brawler or guard for sniper/fire support designs like Archers, Marauders, and so on. You can also use them alongside cavalry units such as Grasshoppers, Tempests, jump capable Thunderbolts like the 8M from the Rec Guide, and more. The Davions ended up with one in the 3060s with the 8D, swapping out the SHS for doubles, adding in a Streak 6, 4 ER ML, 2 ER LL, and a TC for an excellent strike unit. The Wobbie variants are a mixed bag of either IJJ snipers or the WB which has terrible heat sinking capacity (10 DHS)for 4 ER ML, an LRM-15 with one ton of ammo, and a Heavy PPC, of coursing using C3i. I'm not sold on eithe of the Wobbie variants or the traditional post Jihad C3 Slave/Guardian ECM replacement the ROTSies and the Leauge succesor states decided to use. Personally I think the original, the 5M, the 8D and the latest 7M are the best of the bunch, preserving and enhancing the medium or long range energy firepower backed by a full up 6 rack. It's always nice when Marik cam get nice things, and the Guillotine is one.

By itself the 3025 Guillotine is just so-so. Its average, but with a distinct weakness in lacking much in weapon range. Its main benefit is its heavy jump jets. The GLT-7M model is an upgrade replacing the Large Laser to an Extended Range PPC, replacing the Medium Lasers with 2 medium range Light PPCs, the SRM-6 with a Streak SRM-6, and using Double Heat Sinks to manage this. The GLT-8d uses 4 Extended Range Medium Lasers, 2 Extended Range Large Lasers, and a Streak SRM-6 with Double Heat Sinks. Now the Guillotine IIC, hehe, it uses clan weapons as a substantial upgrade. It mount a Clan-grade ER PPC, 2 Clan Large Pulse Lasers with long range, 2 Clan ER Medium Lasers equivalent to the original Guillotine's Large Laser, and an SRM-6.

The 3N has almost no Starleague Era technology. The difference between the 3N and 4L "downgrade package" is 3 heat sinks and the CASE system. The 4L is a perfectly acceptable mech in its own right. Honestly? The Guillotine is a mediocre mech. Good armor. OK weapons package. Decent heat management. Standard speed. And it has jump jets. Perfectly acceptable if I can get one for my lance. But give me the choice between a Guillotine, a Warhammer and an Archer? I'm stuck between the Warhammer and Archer. I'd have to be exclusively in Urban combat to even consider the Guillotine to be superior to those other 70 tonners. Even if it was the 3N model vs the Succession War versions of the other mechs. I'm a little disappointed that there is no version that removes the SRM launcher to make this a more survivable "zombie" mech. Rip out the SRM-6, one ML and the 1 ton of SMR ammo. Replace it with a CT large laser. While this variant loses significant amounts of crit seeking potential, the doubling of long range firepower makes this more viable in my mind. Especially considering that the 4L has enough heat sinks to keep firing both large lasers and jump with no heat gain.

The lack of the fact this mech does not straight up have a grappling hook and a large blade to hack heads off mechs. I am disappointed. Going to send a strongly worded letter to the Hegemony. Wait....does the Hegemony still exist? I sent a lot of complaints and got no response back. Other than ComStar Mechs landing right in my backyard and destroy my swimming pool!

@@BigRed40TECH I think we are witnessing what happens when someone drinks the contents of 5 triple-A batteries then tries to comment on a youtube video.

Typically I love your videos, but I can't help but cringe every time you pronounce guillotine wrong.
