Battling gang violence in Lentegeur and Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain

Yesterday evening I went along with the senior management into Lentegeur and Beacon Valley, to see how our forces are stabilising the area after rampant shootings by gangs in Mitchells Plain.
We have redirected 100 of our officers into the area, to assist our SAPS with their stabilisation efforts.
But many comminities are suffering the same. Together we discussed solutions how we can increase our efforts in this community and others, instead of just running around each time in the wake and aftermath of such gang terror.
We are hopeful of the new collaboration formed with SAPS and want to instead try getting ahead of the problem, using a more proactive approach, that will see intensified efforts focusing instead, more on an intelligence-driven approach.
We have built up an amazing level of confidence and trust with our communities, and we need to capitalise on this, along with our extensive investigation resources we have been building up in our services.
Since Minister Mchunu approached us and took up our offer for collaboration, we have seen a massive turn around with SAPS and have already achieved many successes together. But we need to urgently speed up this level of achievement, to make up for lost ground over the previous years.
If we can assist with investigations, we can begin building watertight case dockets against those terrorising our commmunities, and dismantle these criminal empires that currently reign with impunity in our society.
We can and we must do more. And we are ready...

@JP Smith thank you for acknowledging that while operations like these are welcomed and appreciated, the minute those good officers leave it's back to business for the gangs. The bottom line is that most of the gang activity stems from people not having anything to do, think about it, what can a person from Mitchells plain actually do without leaving the area? I am not saying it's the City's problem but what Mitchells Plain needs is more local based activities and opportunities. Respect

God Bless every one of you out there doing the best that you can with what you have... Perhaps having adequate law enforcement embedded within the community... Properly trained and equipped... Living and working there... Patrolling the streets with currently active community members who are already doing so themselves and are therefore invested... Mobile mini police stations set up and manned to deal with crime more quickly... Better street lighting... DRONES...!!! Naturally... This is just a dream for now... The government does not appear to be able to function yet...let alone concentrate on crime... 🇿🇦

City of Cape Town needs a unit that specifically combats violent crime 24/7. These normal constables and cops are not up to the task as they have not been properly trained.

Goeie werk, maar wat van die res van die Kaap. Hier in die Helderberg sien ons weinig Metro Polisie nie eens te praat van SAPS nie en tog betaal ons almal belasting. Dit was seker een van die grootste foute om die Helderberg by die Kaapse metro in te sluit, net te ver uit. Ons het ons eie, baie goeie, munisipaliteite in die Helderberg gehad, wat nou vernietig is.

There's always resources in Bantry bay, camps bay, sea point, but the blame is also on family protecting/covering up murders,.. Banana courts with no real prosecution, why must a killer get out prison even 5-10 years sometimes shorter....😢

Tbh, I feel that women shouldn't be in the law enforcement other than admin etc. The same principles in the Military should apply. And this is nothing, they need to patrol these areas on a daily basis in private vehicles
