Heh ... no blood relation, but jazz organists are all one big happy family ... I wouldn't say that this particular style is wildly popular on a huge scale, but it is definitely still well-liked. There is a lot of pride in Brazilian musical heritage of all kinds here, as there should be :)

Vanessa, I was listening to Walter Wanderley's album Batucada the other day and it has since become one of my favorites! I remember liking one of your videos several months ago and I was in the mood for some Hammond organ and I found this gem! WOW!!!!! FANTASTIC work! You managed to perfectly capture his style, yet while providing your own personality to the mix. Great homage to the man and my favorite Brazilian bossa nova musician. I especially love his collaborations with Astrud Gilberto. I have probably watched this video at least 20 times by this point! I am planning a trip to Rio at some point as my brother's wife is from there and I can't wait to find a jazz lounge and just listen to some bossa nova. It is by far my favorite style of music, with jazz (swing, bebop, piano trios, organ trios, etc) following closely behind! Bravo! So nice to see that this style of music and use of organ is still used to this day. :)

I'm so happy to hear that you enjoyed it so much, believe me we had as much fun playing this as you did watching it :) When you come to Rio, if you want to hear authentic Bossa Nova, the place to go is Vinicius Bar in Ipanema. As for the other styles you mentioned, check out Fernando Pereira's jam session at Bar Marcô in Santa Teresa on Friday afternoons. Vanessa Rodrigues Ok I will definitely go to Vinicius Bar in Ipanema (what a name and place, can't be anymore bossa nova than that). I can't wait to go! Oh what a treat! Being in Brazil and listening to Walter Wanderley's sound would be the best experience possible. I listen to bossa nova at some point in my daily life :) I am really looking forward to that and I hope my timing works out :D Either way I will message you before I leave to see if your schedule would line up with my trip. Either way this wouldn't be until 2016... I am going to do a humanitarian project in Vietnam this summer for 8 weeks, and my next trip is Costa Rica for 15 days in December 2015. I have to travel in between my college semesters hehe. But for sure 2016! I plan on going to Miami, Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires! I am a Tango fanatic as well.
